That won't work . You cant force a team to compete that potentially would do more damage than good.It will turn if it is more attractive to particpate and when it demonstrates that you can be successful in both comps.

You certainly wouldnt force clubs to participate but a decision needs to be made by the SANFL and the clubs IMO, we are either IN or OUT and by IN means the top 3 clubs will participate.

It's not the SANFL's fault. If you feel strongly about this, write to your club and complain that they declined the invitation. Then write to Norwood, CD and WWT and complain.

Us fans are the ones with the power to fix this. The SANFL clubs will keep doing this until us fans demand they stop (if we ever get that passionate about this).

You both missed my point, the SANFL is made up from our SANFL clubs, they meet with the CEO's of our clubs and either agree to be in or out, not the half pregnant position of having (with all due respect) our 2nd rate teams playing.

I think Id rather be out of the comp and give the spots to other states.

Hondo - Glenelg have never qualified for the comp.

I understood your point , you may have missed mine .Not sure how the voting works but if it's carried by a majority you would be forcing teams to particpate then they would fill a second rate team which would be a poor reflection on our comp.

Be good if it was that simple.

But very simplistic , it doesn't work that way.

It is a slight step forward for the SANFL.
Last year we had the 6th, 7th & 8th team competing
This year it is the 4th, 6th & 7th

I'm still trying two work out WHEN these games will be played if they are to be semi live on Foxtel.

I heard a rumour (and it makes some sense) that these games will be on Foxtel as curtain raisers to the Saturday AFTERNOON game.

Its one of only two liveish weekend time slots available for Foxtel when you consider that on Saturday they have an afternoon, twilight and evening AFL game and on Sunday they already have the early, afternoon and twilight AFL games.

That leaves either Sunday Night or Saturday Morning as the only available timeslots

Thinking this through IF it is the case.
My schedule has AAMI Stadium Saturday Afternoon Games starting at 1.40pm (SA Time)
(Melbourne based games start at 1.10pm this year)
And you need the Foxtel Cup to finish an hour before hand to allow for AFL warm up it needs to finish at 12.40pm (SA Time)
And assume the Foxtel Cup takes about two hours to play
Then we are looking at a 10.40am SA time start (11.10am East Coast or 9.10am WA Time)

It will be just like the old game day reserves telecast of decades past.

Stay tuned to see if that is actually the case.

Absolute can of worms if an earlier start .Is it any wonder some clubs aren't keen . Surely the rules etc are in place before state clubs agree to this. How will the clubs feel if this comes off ?

It's a half arsed, prostituted competition done mostly for the wrong reasons, once Fox and the AFL give it some respect along with some respect to the competitions the clubs come from and their paid up members and the clubs might start looking at it seriously

If last year showed anything it is that this is a made for TV competition first and everything else fits around that including venue, crowds and timeslot.

I still have some degree of doubt about Saturday morning games as I still can't get my ahead around how this will work in Perth given they NEVER play the early Saturday Afternoon game and surely they would not expect teams to play at 9am local time ... surely.

Maybe the games will be played on Saturday at a reasonable time and replayed Sunday Morning at 10.30am just before the early AFL game.

Stay Tuned.

To go off on a tangent reminds me of a gridiron game back in 1987 when I was with the SA Squad that went to Melbourne to play the Vics as a curtain raiser match to the Colorado State v BYU college football game played at Princes (now Visy) Park.

It sounded great on paper our first ever interstate game.

Only issue was for the game to be telecast LIVE back to the western US the main game needed to start at 12 noon, which meant our game started at 8.30am. We were staying at Monash Uni at Clayton about 40 mins away which meant we were woken at 5am (4.30am SA Time) to leave at 5.30am to have breakfast on the way at 6am and arrive at Princes Park by 6.45am to get ready and warm up.

We didn't win.

They have declined twice now and using your theory would have presented the SANFL in a slightly better light than has happenned.

Given their form so far I conclude that they would decline if they finished top 3 so get stuck into them if you feel strongly about it.

They will listen to members moreso than anyone.

So Glenelg are declining only because they technically didn't qualify in the first place?

Come on ....

Duthy is all fired up but conveniently excluding his own club from any blame it seems.

Yeah a technicality, that's it!

What blame could be laid upon Glenelg for not entering the Foxtel Cup?

They didn't qualify. Is that hard to comprehend?

Jabber, they declined, simple as that.

Regardless that their spot came up because others declined first, they have now had invitations and declined twice.

If they "qualified" as you put it they would still decline, do you disagree?
