how many points have everyone got for next year? how do ya recruit if you dont know what you have?
field of dreams wrote:Does anyone know what the points allocation will be for 2012? This year it was:
The Top Three Teams will be allocated a total of 13 points.
The Middle Four Teams will be allocated a total of 15 points.
The Bottom Three Teams will be allocated a total of 17 points.
But wasnt that with an extra 2 each due to the SAAFL not getting on-board with the points system in time?
So is it 11, 13, 15 or 13, 15, 17 again?

LuvsFooty wrote:This is it in a nutshell. Every league gets 150 points allocated, in the past the GSFL has not used their full CFB allocation. This system just filters the "left over" points in to the bottom half of the table.
The position where a Club finishes on the premiership ladder and to include Finals:
1st - 3rd @ 11 points (Total 33), no change.
4th & 5th @ 13 points (Total 26), no change.
6th - 8th @ 17 points (Total 51), increase of 4 points.
9th & 10th @ 20 points (Total 40), increase of 5 points
Top 3 obviously dont get an advantage, 4th and 5th dont benefit immediately but a slip to 6th would see them get 4 extra the following year which would be very handy to push back to the top 5. 6th and 7th are assisted and 8th maintain the same points as this year, which is better than an unnecessary deduction, while 9th and 10th who wouldnt want to be there for long get a chance to play catch up. Seems like a big gap, but 7 points between 1st and 10th is really only 2 players and clubs only have a limited amount of funds available which will probably end up being the major restricting factor.

The bottom 5 seem to be not too bad on retaining they just need an injection of points to speed up the leveling process which probably should have been done in year 1. with 4 of the 5 bottom clubs having b grade finalists is this a bi product of the points? Less emphasis on continually playing catch up and instead trying to be successful in other areas?

I guess what i'm saying instead of giving more points to the bottom clubs, 6th to 10th, cut the top. Less pressure on the lower clubs to find more cash in an inflated player market!
1st & 2nd 6 points
3rd 8 points
4th & 5th 13 points
6th & 7th 15 points
8th, 9th, 10th 17 points
That would even it up & give clubs a chance of rebuilding quicker to play finals.
If all those players have left Compass, it will take them alot of years to play finals under the current system.

It doesn't mean the lower clubs try and get 5 sanfl players at $500+ each who might stay for a year and then disappear. Maybe look at smaller name players and get 6 of them at $200-$300 each who will appreciate it and therefore want to hang around and help develop the club.
6 points is essentially 1 player per year, because after you get 2 recruits one year you can't get any the next and have to wait until their points are down the year after. Too bad if a player wants to come to the club just to play with some mates, or they have just moved into the area.
I don't think the top clubs should be punished for being successful, by all means help the lower clubs but we want the gsfl to stay at the level of football it's at now or better.

Turner from Marion to Goolwa and now to meadows for big $$. Not sure what they need to go to next level but that seems a strange move. 2 average years at 2 very average teams

Yeah I don't understand how players can chop and change clubs every year,. Makes u wonder what is appealing when recruiting him as seems there's definately no loyalty at all
