this year im sure a div 5 club wouldve beaten henley by 15 goals. there was some big scores kicked against them. in saying that some weeks they were very very competitive.

The only comparison that I can be certain of is between my club North Haven and our closest heighbour Port Districts because I know almost all the blokes that play there.
Obviously their Div 2 team would trounce our Div 5 team but our Div 5 team would equally hammer their Div 2R team which I think clears up absolutley nothing but thought I would share

Nice try here Boosh. The only problem with this example is that Port District B grade this year were terrible and finished equal bottom where as North Haven's A grade were reasonable and finished in the top 5.
I think we will find this is a year by year thing. The standard of whatever grade will change yearly, it's just a fact of football.
But if we compare the average for the year in both a high divisions reserves side vs a low divisions A grade e.g. 5th vs 5th or top vs top, that is the closest cmparision we will get.
The Henley c grade example is way off as your talking about 21 guys who are all below the standard of the 21 guys running around in the b grade. That is why their playing c grade for the club. If Henley's C grade got within a few kicks or won any games against a clubs A grade team we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Exactly, so wouldn't it be plausible to suggest that a side who is thrashing a C-Grade team likely to be competitive against the B-Grade. The top sides in Div 5 would have handed out much worse than 100-point wins against Henley's C-Grade this year, so it stands to reason that that Div 5 team could be competitive with Div 1R teams.

I think the key word there is competitive. I have no doubt a top div4 or 5 team would be competitive with the likes of Henley 1R or SHOC 1R, but competitive is a long way from winning. My money would still be with the reserves side.

Having seen quite a few Div 5 games, and comparing to the standard of SHOC and Henley Div 1R, the Div 5 teams would not even be close. To be honest, SHOC Div1R would have gotten very close to the bottom two Div 1 teams in the last couple of years.
Always a matter of opinion though.
