Don't think North will get an opportunity to be involved next year. Shame as it is a good way to get some fringe and younger players exposed to senior foot.

I would be surprised if West & Port who still remain supportive of the games would now back out but if in worst case scenario SANFL has just one club then I am sure the VFL / WAFL would get the extra sports.

It will be interesting to see how it is structured this year in regards to
- Time Slot
- How the minor league clubs are scheduled given the thumpings they received in 2011.

Tony Bamford has already stated that should an opportunity arise, Port Adelaide will compete again.

Yeah i reckon Centrals will decline the offer.
Still not sure on my clubs stance, seems that they have soffened their views on it but decision could go either way.
That would leave South, Glenelg and Port, i think all of those have comitted if invited

Heard on the radio that apparently 7 out of the 9 clubs have declined. Will be interesting if that's the case, especially the club(s) that has declined after playing last year.

If they want the clubs involved they need to get serious and program it better , maybe over a shorter period , allow sponsors to be on guernseys and increase prizemoney to make it more lucrative and prestigious. The whole "exposure" arguement is just stupid. Exposure to who and what ? Talent scouts scout all year not just at Foxtel Cup so from a players perspective that doesn't make sense. How does a club particpating benefit from exposure when they cannot use their sponsors.

Eagles have said no

The WWTFC would like to advise its members that it has today declined the SANFL’s invitation to compete in the 2012 Foxtel Cup competition.

Chairman Kurt Slaven said "The conditions that the AFL has set regarding entry into the Foxtel Cup competition have not fundamentally changed and on this basis, our position on our Club’s participation in the Foxtel Cup has not changed".

"We appreciate the invitation, but we have declined it on the basis that it has the potential to compromise our ability to win the SANFL Premiership in 2012".

"Our Club will remain open minded to the Foxtel Cup concept and any invitations we are in a position to receive in the future will be carefully considered".

Oh but the fact they are on there (albeit microscopically) means they are on there....plenty of free exposure to be had there. As long as the farmers friend Coles gets more exposure, the better it is for their CEO to get another hefty pay rise.

I think it would be rewarding for the same teams that were in it last year to be invited again.

I think once Central say no the other clubs who are seriously looking at winning the flag have to say no also. Central have been the benchmark for the last 11 years and you would be mad to take something on that might put you on an uneven playing field to the team which you aspire to beat.

If one of the Foxtel Cup competing teams wins the SANFL premiership this year, that may all change, but until one does, you'd think those clubs genuinely serious about an SANFL premiership will continue to decline the offer.

I still think the Foxtel Cup can be a good thing for clubs though. Especially those trying to fast track some younger players through and those clubs who have been starved of success for a long period of time.

I didn't even see any results in the media or on the Internet last year, but I didn't actively look for them.
So, I assume it is only "The cup for those who choose to have anything to do with Foxtel", since it didn't rate a mention anywhere else. ;)

One for the Rooster supporters.

How did the rescheduling of the Labrador game back to Adelaide instead of the Gabba pan out financially for those who had booked a trip via the club.

Were any fans or the club left out of pocket from the venue change?

Might have some impact on how the Roosters respond should they get an invite in 2012.

If you booked through the club you got a full refund.

Worked to my advantage as I used the funds to see the Wallabies for the first time and they won the Tri Nations for the first time in almost 10 years (and the try of the year at internation level was scored right in front of us and we met 3 Wallabies players) and I had my biggest ever betting return with the match at Footy Pk which paid for another trip later in the year! Might have been beneficial to the players if they got the trip away as previously planned but I wasn't complaining!

North are too far down the ladder to get another invite but would jump at the chance if they had it, probably would have won 1 or 2 less games last year if not being part of the Cup.

Outside of the Foxtel telecasts, you had to hunt for live scores/results on the AFL site if you wanted to know what was going on with the tournament.

Re: Foxtel Cup!!!!!!

Postby Country Cousin » Mon Nov 21, 2011 10:17 pm

This item appeared in the West Australian newspaper on Nov. 3rd
"Foxtel Cup organisers are aiming to increase the prize money for the competition's second year, with hopes that South Australia's top sides will take part in 2012.

The 16 teams that competed in the inaugural national league this year shared in $180,000. Winners VFL club Williamstown pocketed $40,000, while runners-up Claremont received $30,000.

AFL second-tier development manager Simon Laughton flagged more prize money for next year subject to budget approval, but would not give a figure.

He said organisers were hopeful SANFL premiers Woodville-West Torrens and top-three sides Central District and Norwood would contest the 2012 Foxtel Cup. All three chose to skip the 2011 competition."

One week later Norwood and The Eagles were saying they'd "Wait and see" (Presumably on how much more $$$ on offer.)
One week later again and all 3 top sides are out. (Obviously not enough)
It's all about money folks and Foxtel, having payed out billions to the AFL for what they regard as the 'Real" games, are throwing crumbs to the minor warm up acts. Of course when we're talking about the AFL we're talking about the geniuses who reportedly threw away half a million bucks on a has been flop from America, for their so called pre-match GF "entertainment" . Not surprising that so many SANFL clubs regard the pittance they're being offered as an insult.
