best sledge i heard was from a nameless player from western ireland ( no hair, current coach also know as Dave Flo ) called wristy a Socialist. had me laughing for a while.

The actual quote i believe was..."Just because your Dads in politics, doesnt mean you have to be a socialist". Yes it also cracked me up but i did award a 13m penalty. The perpetrator of this comment and I actually sought clarification from the late Normy Murphy after the game on the sledge and the penalty i gave and we were told that i should have carded the player in question and the colour of the card would be based on the offence i took from the sledge. Whilst i found it p*ss funny and couldnt contain my laughter it should be said it is also very risky to sledge a ref with any refrence to anything personal. Im a big believer of leaving everything on the field but i have known many a ref over the years who havent :o .

Anyway does anyone have the actual scores from the Sunday games???

Pretty pi$$week to bag the refs IMHO, especially new ones, especially when we have bugger all refs in the comp, and especially in a sport like Gaelic Footy which is most peoples second or even third sport meaning very few of us (refs included) know all the rules anyway.

Tho speaking of refs - how badly does Tommy G's move to Queensland effect the umpiring stocks? Do Irish Australians have an umpire this year? Do Mitcham need to provide a new umpire now that their rep is no longer available? Do Western Ireland have an umpire yet?

Surely we should be able to look at getting some of the plethora of Irish imports who have joined our league in the last year or two into refereeing.

I've bitten my tongue long enough but is anyone sensing a common theme here?

Flinders Win- No bagging of the referee. Flinders Lose- bagging of the referee.

It is so easy to take pot shots at the referee but dont you understand- WITHOUT THEM THERE AREN'T ANY GAMES!

Everyone is sick of hearing Flinders whinge and have a go at referees.

And there's my piece. See you back on the forum in 2013!

Wasn't alot of the actual decisions I was bagging, more the relationship with the players and his attitude in particular to our players. No body will ever agree with every decision made by the umpire but when people like wristy and Zeus for example ref, you can accept the decisions that you dont agree with as you can see their thought process and they explain how they have come to their decision. They have no pre conceived perceptions of the club in which they are umpiring and take every game on it's merits.

As I said WI played extremely well and deserved the win and would have beaten us with any ref, so we are def not using that as an excuse. They were clearly better on the day.

It would be funny to see some refs get on here and write about which players had absolute shockers and let their teams down with their performance, decision making and discipline  Im truly not having a go at anyone but im just saying it sure would make some interesting reading if the men with the whistle highlighted some player errors when under pressure. When the game gets tense and a ref makes an error in judgement he has allegedly cost teams games. Hows about the 10 skill errors in a row that teams make under pressure that are adjudicated correctly before a questionable call.
The womens game i believe are now down to 3 qualified refs. The mens refs stocks are slowly growing but for goodness sake we make allowances for new players and their adjustments to learning the game, maybe we should do the same to the new refs. Heres a stat for your stiff sh*t list. In my first season as a ref in 1993 (i think) i quit after my second game because of the abuse :( and didnt ref again for a long long time....Its only now that i have developed an unquenchable thirst for being underpaid and regularly abused along with the goal of improving the standard of Refs in SA that i go out each week and enjoy it. Im not sure that many other refs actually get much of a thrill from the whole adventure though  .

While I don't claim to be a saint towards officials, in any sport, I would like to think mine is more a questioning style than an abusive one.

With that in mind, please don't give a blow by blow description of how many times I have ****** up on the pitch. The loyal readers of the Gaelic forum have jobs, wives/girlfriends etc and simply do not have the time to read through the long list of my stuff ups.

That is all.

Couldn't put it better myself wristy, and that applies to all sports, not just gaelic.

I umpired indoor cricket for many years until 1 particular game i copped so much abuse that i tossed it in and swore i would never ref another game of sport.

If the ref makes a howler, i do believe as a player you are entitle to question the ref as to what he/she saw when making the call (politely of course), but some players take that too far.

The rules in Gaelic are very clear on abuse, similar to rugby, where the official is shown respect and any language results in a card and a send off for abuse is 3 weeks, I know!!!

As a ref I can see the game differently but every week I still shake my head at a few decisions but that's the way it is, tj was very good and had a chat after the game and explained his calls

The game I reffed on the weekend the players were behaved which was good to see

Moving away from discussing the men in white/black/red/aqua/whatever shirt Wristy finds in his closet - i dont know him at all but i see there is a brief article in the paper today about Port Maggies Jordan Erskine - hasnt he suited up Flinders O'Neills this year?

St Brendans vs Na Fianna this Sunday night - the Taints thus far pi$$ poor numbers looking at taking another hit with the Morphett Vale Emus having a family day/pi$$ up and staging the Emu Gift 100 metre sprint. This will no doubt result in:

- The Polish Bear (2 time winner of Emu gift - about 10 years ago) missing the game after snapping a hammy
- The Polish Cub getting blotto and missing the game entirely
- ZC arriving sometime in the second half as it takes him 6+ hours to run 100m

The Emu Sniper already has your photograph and is ready to take out your hamstring mid stride. I personally hope it flicks up and smacks you in the back of the head but I think that is asking a bit much.

Will St. Brendans still be able to play 15 a side on Sunday or is there a chance that they will only be able to play 13 a side.

We at St Brendans are gallantly/foolishly pro 15aside so if we get the bare 15* then thats what we will play with.
