A friend of mine once began a course of study at a local university. Managed to fail one of his first year topics. So he re-took it as an intensive course over the summer break. He was finding it really easy second time around, getting high marks for all assignments, etc. So he went to see the course coordinator and get a look at his exam paper, to see exactly how he managed to fail it the first time round.

Upon sighting his exam paper he found out that he'd actually passed the exam - but his result had been recorded incorrectly.

Consider that this bloke had to forgo full time employment over the summer in order to re-take this course, and that enrolling in it a second time would have incurred a second HECS charge as well. Puts the simple loss of an assignment into perspective, does it not?

An assignment with weighting of 35% pretty much leads to a fail if it isn't handed up. Not the first time I have heard of exams being passed but results being recorded as a fail.

Currently at the W&C with "septic arthritis" caused by an infection as a result of the chicken pox.

Just had X-rays show the infection, about to have blood tests and a drip in the some anti-biotics. Not having a good run at the moment. :(

Managing to put a steel rod thru one of my month old tyres...
Somehow it managed to go thru the bottom of the tyre & the sidewall... Somehow it's still up, but changed it for safety reasons. Which is inconvenient when you're only 5 weeks off a knee reco...

That's what happens when you don't have a decent trainer ;)

Payroll ******* up calculations on one of my staff member's leave requests.

I now have to contact her on the first week of her honeymoon in Europe to tell her she will only be getting paid for 8 days rather than the requested 22.

Even worse is the HR manager will now be doing everything in his power not to take the blame for it.

What a load of BS.

mate that is just how hr works. they are only there to stuff up, and when they are caught out it is because of "the crap system we have to use" to manage the forms. well personally if it is a crap system, it is up to the manager to fix it, so therefore it is still their fault.

i have had my pay stuffed up twice while working where i do. once the entire month before my wedding, once the week before i moved house. both times due to a variation of hours.

first one they didnt pay me for the extra hours worked, i thought no problem they will get it right next time, maybe the variation form missed their cut off. a fortnight later still the same, no back pay. i rang payroll,
ME "where is the extra money for the past month?"
Payroll guy "i only just got the form today"
ME "what a coincidence, better give me a manual payment of the missing money"
Payroll guy "no, you will have to wait till next fortnight"
ME "bullshit, i need that money, have you ever been underpaid?"
Payroll guy "that isnt relevant, talk to hr"
ME "give me their number then"
Payroll guy "you have to go through your manager"
ME "mate give me the number or i will come to your building and stand on your desk till i get it"
Payroll guy "fine 5555 5555"
ME "cheers have a great day"

calling HR: "hey, tipper here, get a manual payment organised pronto"
HR Guy "cant do it, you will have to wait"
ME "ok, then you can explain to my wife why i got married in boardies and thongs, i need the money to pick up the suits for my wedding in 2 days"
HR Guy "let me talk to my boss......... he says that we will do it cos it is exceptional circumstances and next time you will have to wait, we dont normally do manual payments"
ME "there better not be a next time, i would hope you dont normally F@$K up peoples pay two fortnights in a row"

after all that they still screwed up my leave loading as well! personally the acronym HR stands for complete and utter incompetence, not sure where they got the letters H and R out of that though

You must work in the same place I do tipper.

What really cheeses me off in this situation is I'm the one that a) has to tell the poor girl she's not getting paid on her honeymoon, and b) will most likely wear her resignation when she finds out.

I will most likely get the blame for not doing the 'appropriate checks' as well. What a crock.

dont you just love getting stuck cleaning up someone elses mess. can you just give her the HR managers number and say you need to call them asap??? let him explain it as it was his department that made a mistake, wether it was his fault or not. then when you get an angry phone al from him, deny all knowledge :-" :-"

This may have changed - but in the 'banking establishment' that I used to work for - HR used to mess up so much and get so many phone calls that eventually they started charging branches when their staff would ring and 'hassle' them. Everything had to go via the manager and email to be a 'free' service..lol
