NO amount of tree planting or using biofuels in cars will stop the planet warming, the first report by the Climate Commission warns.
The findings are a blow to Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, who opposes the Government's carbon tax and has instead proposed to combat global warming through an offsets policy.
The report, which pulled together the latest peer-reviewed science on climate change, concluded that the controversial science behind climate change was beyond denial.
"The atmosphere is warming, the ocean is warming, ice is being lost from glaciers and ice caps and sea levels are rising," it said.
"Global surface temperature is rising fast; the last decade was the hottest on record. Human activities - the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation - are triggering the changes we are witnessing in the global climate."

Or he could revert to his original plan...Sojourner wrote:Guess the only thing that would stop it would be the Carbon Free Nuclear Power then???fish wrote:Abbott's plan 'won't stop warming'

MM if you seriously believe or expect that any country can singlehandedly "solve" the global climate change problem you are sadly mistaken.Mad Mat wrote:Or more to the point Australia's carbon tax will have how much effect on the climate?

Every country has to do it's fair share towards solving the problem and Australia, as one of the worlds most intense polluters, must do it's fair share too.

Every country has to do it's fair share towards solving the problem and Australia, as one of the worlds most intense polluters, must do it's fair share too.
Australia doesn't even rate in the top 10 polluters who account for over 70%
The "per capita" argument is continually trotted out but is a load of tripe - grasping at any statistical distortion to support an argument. FFS, look who's in the Top 10The Falklands & Aruba should be turned back into national parks!!!!
Here is a list of carbon dioxide emissions 1990 to 2008.
Even the greeny Canadians are worse than us

However, while I agree we are contributing to the CO2 elevation I am aware we are also, now, at a natural peak in the Milankovitch Cycles.
I definitely don't think what we are doing will make any difference, nor would it even if we were a significant part of the total output.
France is making a difference...

Really G! Don't you think the Libs will make it a big issue - even a referendum as they are threatening to do? It is an advertising agents dream brief. Believe me!
