The only problem with alcohol is that it has calories that the body will burn before it burns fat. So basically it stops burning fat to burn alcohol. What I've told clients in the past if your going to have a few drinks promise yourself to do twice as much cardio the next day. At the end of the day you have to be happy and if your not you will end up where you started

The worst thing about alcohol is the food you eat with it and with some people that they forget how much they have had. A couple of beers on the weekend isn't going to harm you. As long as your burning more calories then you put in you will lose weight.

i have cut my intake of beer right back to a few on a friday night at the local for happy hour and the pub draw and i have gone from full strength supa dry or west end draught (mothers milk to me) pints to mid strength supa dry stubbies or XXXX gold schooners. so i have made adjustments to all the food and drink that i consume. best move so far is staying clear of the local bakery and no more iced coffees and no chips or spuds with my meals. also no fast food when we head out of town!

Go down to the new aquatic centre and look at all the fatties pushing countless laps.

Running burns most calories.

Running burns more than a good bike ride? And by a good ride, I'm not talking about the Sunday pedal down to the shops for the paper and coffee.

And by run I'm not talking about between the wickets after a push to mid off.

Impact on legs vs bike???
No comparison.

I'm not a nutrition expert but I did do bodybuilding when I was younger but never competed. I have recently got but into it and thinking about competing this time round. I have trained people before and am currently training one person who should hit a loss of 40kg by the end of the year. The biggest thing is staying motivated and what works best for you.

Swimming good for fitness and building lung capacity, but ineffective for weight loss.

That's the crux of the arguement, burn more energy through exercise than what your take in through food and beverages, and you will lose mass.

Mode of exercise isn't the issue its the doing of the physical activity.

Spot on again, just got to keep doing it, its a lifestyle thing, easy to start exercise hard part is keeping on doing it.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I wouldn't say swimming is ineffective for weight loss at all, if you went for a 2km swim each day you would be losing weight. But running and bike would be my preferred choice of cardio. My client i'm training atm hasn't actually done any running at all because of a knee recon he had 18months ago. All he has done is walking on the treadmill cross trainer and bike. But the reason he has been so successful is because he has stuck to the diet plan and has been motivated to want to lose fat.
