Glenelg had started dreadfully, but then Stephen Kernahan just changed the game and the Bays led by 2 goals at half time. They were never going to lose from then and won by the best part of ten goals.
I still actually think that Bays 1985 side is the best SANFL side I have ever seen, 18 out of the 20 players either played VFL/AFL or Interstate football

Yeah they had some fair cattle running around then .. Many of those 18 not only played VFL/AFL, but were stars of differing degree in those comps.

Laurie Argent played a blinder for the Bays in the last quarter of the 2nd Semi Final.

I couldn't agree more. It was the most disgraceful umpiring I have ever seen in a final. He seemed to have a real hatred of North. I prefer umpires who are low profile. Laurie Argent always seemed as though he wanted to be the centre of attention.
I thought that we were certainies in 1987 as soon as I saw Thorpe and Kinnear as the umpires.

Not even close - in 1968 Peter Darley (South) tied for the Magarey Medal with Barrie Robran and would have won it on a count back, but was ineligible because he had received a one match suspension for telling an umpire what we all knew about him in any case. That is harsh.
