Goat Herder wrote:I was having a gander at AFL 360 last night, and have to agree with what (I think) Mark MacLure said about Primus. As hard as he has tried with a **** list, he still had opportunities to notch up a few wins with some of his decision-making, but he has c0cked just about every one of them up in a big way, least of all his handling of the Cornes boys this year. The lack of honesty & frankness (Laidley aside..
) when discussing the issues in the media have done more harm than good, allowing speculation in the industry to run rife. In addition, by being 'economical with the truth', Primus has also alienated supporters in the process - which we really can't afford to have happen. There's a real possibility that the Cornes lads are a big part of the problem, but that is not the public perception to the average outsider. People in general don't appreciate having the wool pulled over their eyes and fed a pile of bullshit, and this is no different.
I think the lack of transparency is hurting the Club. The supporters don't need to know every single detail, but don't shut them out completely. Once it's out there, it's done & dusted, people accept it for what it is, and they move on. News doesn't stay current in AFL world too long these days. Laidley was very, very open about issues within the Club 4-5wks ago on Fox, and personally, I actually felt affiliated for the first time in a long time. None of this smoke'n mirrors crap or scripted statements that go around in circles and mean nothing. One of the strengths of the PAFC for so long has been the supporter base. Why? Because the supporters felt PART of the Club!!I don't think the same can be said now.

In the end, MacLure finished up by saying that Primus needs to be replaced with someone who can take control of the Club. Primus will get another year at least. But his nuts will be in a vice from the time pre-season training kicks off (about elimination final time...). He'd better learn from his mistakes, otherwise his tenure next year will be a short one.

Fairly handy to have those priority/number 1 picks though, a luxury that Port has never been fortunate enough to receive, indeed Port has never had the luxury of early picks that clubs like St Kilda, Carlton etc have had. Some people have poor memories if they overlooked Carlton efforts earlier this decade. Trading for Stephen O'Reilly, who then ultimately informed the AFL of some illegal payments, thats some fairly poor management there I would say.
