Nobody likes to see the actual death of their cashcow now, do they?? ;)

FULLY agree Booney. You're spot on. Can't believe Hitchcock gets a gig ahead of Ebert.

Key Position.

LOL the only way he'd be a Key Position was if he were a Locksmith....

Not sure about better, but has the opportunity to develop, Ebert is past it.

Your guess is as good as mine LMcQ. ;) Who'd want to be making a living in our forward line at the minute?? I'm surprised he hasn't crushed vertebrae in his neck watching the ball go over his head! There's only one worse place to be than in our forward line right now, and that's in our back 6. ;)

It's also easy to forget that Ebert has had a knee recon too within the last 12mths, albeit the LARS surgery. Who knows how he's travelling with that at the minute?? No obvious signs of limitations, but.......??

It's the half a dozen years prior that concerns me, he needed to be a 70+ goals per season player sitting in the forward pocket when Port were at their peak, we've had too many in this category.

Jason Cripps was on the radio the other week and said Ebert hasn't been given the chance to play in the midfield due to lacking the aerobic capacity required.
The LARS surjery hindered his pre-season severely, and Cripps indicated had he had a proper full pre-season then he would've most likely been given an opportunity in the midfield.
He is no benefit to the side jumping on the ball and not being able to keep up with the play or running out of puff after only a couple of efforts.

Bollox he's had cameo's in the middle all year, esp early on in particular Cows game played a quarter-ish in the middle and did alright. Had a few goes after that and did fa. Not an AFL midfielder in my book by a long way. Would love to be proved wrong tho.

A bloke wins a Magarey Medal playing in the centre, so of course he gets pidgeon-holed as a permanent small forward. Makes sense. :? I can understand it when we had a gun midfield early on in his career, but in this day & age where opposition teams load up behind the ball, a bloke who can roost 60m over that line should be utilised. Williams killed this lad's career and hurt the Club badly at the same time. Same goes for Salter. The lad is a natural forward, but let's play him down back.

70 goals is a bit of a harsh expectation LMcQ, given that LeCras or Milne have never reached that mark and Brad Johnson did just once in 17yrs.

1 - Ebert is never going to be a 70+ goal a year forward.Never. Anymore than 50 would be an absolute bonus.

2 - He does not have the engine to run in the mid-field. Love it when people say "He won a Magerey in the middle....". Long time ago. Very different competition.

70 goals sitting in the forward pocket permanently in a side that was winning 19-20 matches per year, a tad over 3 per game.
Johnson missed too many shots and played up the ground a fair bit, Milne's had too many other players to compete for goals along with Saints aren't traditionally big scorers, LeCras has only stepped up last season and this one but has been interrupted, it's a bit hard with Kennedy and Lynch floating around up forward aswell, Le Cras will get there.

Both Ebert and Surjan have had no preseasons after coming back from long term injuries. Both players were in really good form before they got injured, so to write them off based purely on this year is harsh. Decent preseason for both and we will see big improvements in them next year.

Nothing stopping Primus from using him in the midfield rotation for say 10mins a quarter with a solid pre-season under his belt. ;)

It might be a harsh stat but he's only polled 15 Brownlow votes in 148 games. As a Magarey Medallist you'd think he'd be eye-catching to some degree.
I like the guy's endeavour, attitude and the way he's never been in the media spotlight for any negative issues, I just don't think his AFL career ever reached great heights.
