Centrals sack seconds players all the time. There is no point in keeping them if they are not likely to become good league players.

All clubs do however I would think that it would be a decision made by all the Senior Coachs and agreed where as from what NM has stated the decision clearly was not mutual at the Magpies?

I can't recall centrals ever sacking six or so players with a few rounds left. Why bother? Why not just not play them, and let them play for their local team. I can only imagine it leads to disunity the way they've gone about it. Seems a bit bizarre the way it's been explained so far. I do agree however that the coach has to do what he deems best for the league side, just don't see how this way is. Unless they Are all fringe players that haven't really played and aren't going to?
Anyway, any nason or Jenner types amongst them? We could do with a tall forward.

I agree with Bamfords thinking as its all about the League sides development, although the action taken with the U'18s is slightly puzzling.

I just feel so disappointed with this entire issue, since Port become one club there has not been much that has gone right, the reserves and under 18's are at least winning games of football. No matter who is right and who is wrong for a reigning premership coach to leave the club this close to the end of the season is a classic example of how Port is being administered. There is nothing wrong with the coaching staff having different opinions but these differences should of been sorted out during pre-season not this close to finals particuarly since it is both Meads and Banfords second year. Looking completely from the outside both Mead and Bandford come across as squibbling school boys. For them not to be able to mediate an outcome to at least to the end of the season so that the club is not disrupted particualarly while the league is attempting to play finals unfortunately shows there is a lack of leadership at Alberton bring back Matthew Knights ( I meant everything except the knights bit )

Just out of curiosity NM, who were the fringe players told they were no longer required?Also, who will take over from Mead for the remainder of the season?

Two ex Port players, Michael Clinch and Cameron Miller, are now playing at Bute. Whether this is due to them being told they are not required im not sure.

Mate i'm hearing you but you don't go cleaning out your cupboard 4 weeks from finals & if your B's & 18's are top you must have some good depth.

I don't actually know or care why, but if their U18 are so strong, perhaps the coach wants to move on a few that were only reserves standard to make some room for the juniors to develop.

... or perhaps Bamford is a SANFL spy, and trying to cause bitterness and turmoil and help the downward spiral to oblivion by making decisions that are not popular with his support staff.

Watson has been named in the best players in the last 4 games, and Weetra in 3 of the 4.



At this stage of the year, how can the Reserves be putting any selection pressure on the League side, if the ones that are outperfoming the rest are told they aren't good enough?

I can see the philosophy in having the lower grades developing young guys, but no sense in making these cuts at this time of year.

You now have 6 weeks to play some quality U18s in the reserves who may push to play league football next year.
These decisions do not happen overnight, they are big decisions. Your footy club is measured on the league side, so everything you do below should be to improve that league side, and i am sure the people involved have this in mind.

I don't have a problem with the philosophy with what has explained to be the cause, I can understand the club's philosophy and I can understand Mead being attached to some of those players and feeling cheated on. BUT, what I do question is the timing. The timing of it makes me think that there has to be something else behind it too.
