Talk on any country footy league or club from the SA Country area

Was all shits and giggles. Funniest thing we saw was a couple of Port Noarlunga blokes (they were camping next to us), grabbed their mate's tent and tied it to the top of their bus. Bloke wasn't too happy about it either.

Dogwatcher you are the guru of country footy- your thoughts. I heard that Gaza looked impressive, Pt Districts (although they had a few out) were not up to expectations and Blackwoods older recruits didn't stand up (Soft tissue type injuries- could be sign of things to come??). Peake desperately need a ruckman but on ball should be strengthened. Salisbury look very good and not much should be taken from Sudays games as many were not 100%!! Riverland teams hard to line up. Overall thoughts??

Struth - I wouldn't say I'm a guru. Guru Josh maybe (fans of 90s music would know what I'm talking about).

You're pretty much spot on from that.

To be honest I didn't see much of the division one or two games. Spent the days watching the division three games.

Briefly saw Loxton North v Walkerville. North look like a young side, full of run. A fit Michael Arnold will help them immensely through the season. Their second ruckman wasn't there on the day (cricket final).

As I don't really know much about Gaza, Walkerville and Blackwood, I can't say too much for them.

Gaza did totally outclass Blackwood - they'd want to really after having a 9.30 curfew!
Loxton defeated Blackwood 2 by about a goal. Loxton played nowhere near its full strength side and had a five or six goal lead at half time. Kruger took himself off and things changed, the Woods came back.
Loxton a very young side. Apparently they had some recruits from Adelaide for the Saturday games - but I don't know too much about them.
A player to watch this year for Loxton will be Rhys Mitchell.

From division three - I can say that Salisbury and Blackfriars will have very good years. Look well drilled and young and full of run. Neither was playing at full strength.

There'll be coverage of the carnival in each of the Murray Pioneer, Loxton News and Pinnaroo & Border Times this week.
Pioneer comes out Tuesday (you should be able to find it on the net), Loxton News and Border Times on Wedensday.

During the footy season each paper gives a comprehensive footy coverage.

Border Times covers the Mallee league.

All three newspapers should be available from the Read All About it newsagency in the Myer Centre in Rundle Mall.

Would've been nice to have a chat mate. Dutchy's goal was all ass, couldn't do it again in his life if he tried. The man doesn't even wear football socks...

I had the same type socks on boys - don't feel ashamed!

Pag wrote: Today's game against Flinders Uni was the most I'd had playing footy since I was 10. Everyone was lined up in positions when they had another player rock up, watched this bloke run on and give me a little love-tap. Happened to be Dogwatcher. He got me later on too, probably should've been holding the ball while he was there. Spent 90% of the game across half-back laughing and sledging. Good times.

Yeah, I should've been having a shot on goal there! A bit of pride for the Crabs. A second goal would have been nice!
Actually, if I'd stood you Pag - I might have got a few more kicks, you would've led me to the ball! I had no idea where the Flinders boys were going to kick it (and they didn't either!). Pag was easily best on ground ;)

And Pag, my teeth still hurt....

Lizzy, I'd reckon they'd roll you. No offence, but they should anyway - being a Div 4 side.
You'll need a good full back, and your runners will have to be at full steam all day.

And they run really well from half back.

Further info:

Nuriootpa pulled out of the carnival after Saturday as they only had 10 fit men.
They came with bare minimum players, but managed to be ultra competitive in the games they played.
Gaza struggled to shake them off.
I think they lost to Blackwood also - with bare minimum players and could have won that with a fully fit side.
They sound like they'll be strong in 2007.

Gaza was the div one winner. Blackwood runner-up
Walkerville won div two. Loxton runner-up
Salisbury div three. Blackfriars runner-up

Carnival organiser said the game between Salisbury and Blackfriars was highlight of carnival for them due to the closeness and standard of the game.

I'm not sure where the 9:30 curfew for GAZA has come from, Many of the players and might I add coaching staff seemed quite intoxicated in the main street of Loxton early sunday morning but still pulled out a pretty good performance on sunday! However they were by far the most professional team getting around, outclassed all opponents by a long shot

CJ, our score was 5.7 to 5.5

The game against Blackfriars was a decent standard, good to see the Loxton people recognised it as the highlight.

DW, not sure why your teeth hurt mate, I was the one who got done cold

My teeth hurt from when I tackled the lad on your half forward after he'd kicked the ball. I couldn't stop, my teeth hit the back of his head. He got a free kick for in the back and scored one of your 23 goals!

How's the sunbrun though mate?

Cheers. Were lookin for a hard game out of them to get us off flying into the season. We dont expect to win but we will be more competitive than Flinders. hahaha

Who do u think would make a good full bback from the players u know? Jamie DeKort isnt playing on this year i dont think?

Among other reasons - the Barossa is in the middle of Vintaqe (or end actually due to the drought and frosts) - Nuri also had several sides in the local cricket finals. AFAIK they only managed to take 15 guys up, some of which were pretty green. They had some assistance from other clubs in carnival to put a side on field.

that's pretty much what we heard Timmy. Begs the question why enter???? Those were always going to be issues for Nuri.

Sprint To Space - you must have been wearing baggy pants and twirling space sticks to think Infinity is one of the best songs you've ever heard. Good mind you ;) It's actually a song that sadly gets overlooked on most 90s compiles or 90s theme nights. It's perfect for the time though. Can you name the follow up song? Anyway back to footy.

can't say i know of anything else they did. i have unusal musci taste that rarely hits the mark with others i know. that was last century, i still have it on tape, the quality is not good but it reminds me of times gone past.

i was impressed by the carnival - well run, facilities in great nick, weather was nice, shame i had to head home sat arvo to go the fringe, will keep march free next year.

our lads did pretty well in div 3. shame one of our blokes decided to get sent off with 3 minutes to go and we were 4 points up. salisbury free on the wing, they took it forward nice and clean and made us pay. back to the after training chats on being disciplined and making the opposition pay on the scoreboard.
