News Ltd hacked murdered girl's 'phone.

Postby redandblack » Wed Jul 06, 2011 6:29 pm

Mr Murdoch's papers are doing their best to hide this, but how low can some media go?

The News of the World paper hacked the phone of a girl who had disappeared in England (and who was subsequently found murdered), and deleted messages, thus raising the family's hopes the girl was still alive.

Illegal surveillance seems to be a common practice at News Ltd.

http://www.slate.com/id/2298439/

If Rupert Murdoch could be slain by a mere scandal, he would have been embalmed and entombed long ago. The genocidal tyrant has successfully swept away every scandal—major and minor—he has ever faced because of his special skill at normalizing his malefactions. He sacked Times of London editor Harold Evans after guaranteeing the paper "independence." He deployed his reporters to unearth dirt on business rivals. He purchased the forged Hitler diaries. He repeatedly and cravenly kowtowed to the Chinese. He approved the acquisition of O.J. Simpson's book, If I Did It, and more.

We expect the worst from Murdoch, and he lives up to our expectations. In 2007, the "royal" editor of Murdoch's News of the World tabloid and a private investigator employed by the newspaper went to jail for hacking into the voicemails of phones belonging to the staff of the "royal" family. Although other phones were alleged to have been hacked, the Murdoch enterprise was able to make the scandal vanish from the headlines.

The scandal resurfaced in 2009, when Guardian reporter Nick Davies showed how extensive News of the World hacking had been, targeting politicians, professional athletes, actors, and assorted celebrities. Lawsuits were filed, and financial settlement were paid to some of the hacked, but nobody was bowled over—even after Davies gave evidence to members of the House of Commons that Murdoch's company, News Corp., was covering up the scandal. For its part, News Corp. dismissed allegations of any systemic wrongdoing its New of the World journalists or private investigators in this now-laughable August 2009 statement.

This is all part of the original hacking cases by NoW of the phones of celebs, pollies etc which was bad enough but I never thought Murdoch's scumbags would sink this low.

Today it's being reported on the BBC News that they might also have hacked the phones of relatives of the two young girls murdered in the 'Soham' case as well as victims and relatives of the 7/7 London bombings.

Reported on BBC News last night that Ford have threatened to remove all their advertising from the paper and others may follow suit.

They also said last night that the matter will be raised in parliament today...I believe they are going to try and call for some sort of special investigation.

JAS

P.S. This is the latest on the BBC News website and includes a link to their 'timeline' of the case so far...

Ford have now suspended their advertising in the NoW...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14040841
Car maker Ford has announced a halt on advertising in the News of the World, pending the newspaper's investigation and response

Others are still holding back for now...
http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Busine ... ing_Claims

BBC Radio News also reporting that people have started cancelling subscriptions to online versions of papers like The Times...which I think is a News Corp paper...and others that have no Murdoch connection.

Murdoch should be paying out mega dollars to the victims of this gutless act by his company. Another good reason for Governments to step in and break up his media ownership

Not just her phone GWW...victims and relatives of victims from other tragedies were apparently targeted as well.

I'm sure, given that we are run by the Tories, Murdoch and co will emerge at the end whiter than white and squeeky clean. Afterall one of the 'key players' was also the PM's spokesman until this January.

However it is likely to get a lot worse before it gets better. Allegations of payments to the police now being reported...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14043770
E-mails have emerged of alleged payments to the police by the News of the World (NoW), triggering fresh calls to investigate the relationship between officers and Rupert Murdoch's newspaper empire.

As each twist and turn of the phone hacking scandal is played out, amid ever more serious claims, pressure mounts on the NoW.

The way it's growing your press might not be able to ignore reporting it for much longer...

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/hacking-scanda ... 12874.html

The Guardian claims all child murders and abductions dating back to 2001 are now under investigation by police to see if the victims' families were also targeted.

The majority of Australian News Limited papers have ignored or buried revelations that their UK Sunday sister, the News of the World, hacked into the voicemail of murdered teenager Milly Dowler — the biggest media story in years.

A Crikey survey of the eight Australian News Limited metropolitan daily mastheads reveals that only the Herald Sun and The Australian covered the yarn, with the brave souls at the Hun dedicating just 28 words to it in a brief on page 32… just above an item about Nathan’s hotdog eating champion Joey Chestnut.

Just another confirmation of the self-serving, low quality, biased 'journalism' from the Murdoch papers here.

They serve merely to have us all do Rupert's bidding.

News Ltd?

Limited News.

Just before I went to bed last night this was the latest 'breaking news' allegation...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-14052909

Mobile phones owned by relatives of UK soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan were allegedly hacked by the News of the World.

The Daily Telegraph claims the phone numbers of relatives of dead service personnel were found in the files of private investigator Glenn Mulcaire.

This comes after Prime Minister David Cameron said he would set up a public inquiry into alleged phone hacking.

The list of companies that have suspended their advertising has grown considerably...

Possibly more arrests at NotW on the way...as reported by Sky News and The times (guess who owns them)

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/families-kille ... 06238.html

Further arrests are reportedly expected over phone-hacking claims within days - as it emerged relatives of killed soldiers could have been targeted.

The Times reports five journalists and newspaper executives have been identified as suspects.

The whole mess could put a crimp in his ongoing attempt to totally take over BSkyB (he already owns a bit of it)...

The scandal has hit BSkyB shares, which fell 18p to 827p on the London market on Wednesday as concerns grew over the possible impact it could have on News Corporation's bid for the satellite broadcaster.

This could hurt them a fair bit...the Legion would be the equivalent of your RSL

The Royal British Legion has dropped the paper as its campaigning partner.

The services charity said it was "shocked to the core" by the claims and was reviewing its advertising budget with the paper's owner News International, which also publishes The Sun and The Times.

Might also affect the conviction of politician Tommy Sheridan...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-g ... t-14061332

Witness statements at the Tommy Sheridan perjury trial are to be probed following new allegations in the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

The Crown Office has asked Strathclyde Police for a "preliminary assessment" and to hand any findings to prosecutors for possible further action.

Those who gave evidence at the trial included Bob Bird, Douglas Wight and former editor Andy Coulson.

Sheridan was jailed for lying during his successful defamation case in 2006.

The original defamation case was against the NotW.

Might take a while before this is laid to rest...probably going to need a bigger compensation fund too...

http://uk.news.yahoo.com/4-000-potentia ... 32273.html

More than 4,000 potential phone hacking victims have been highlighted by Scotland Yard, detectives leading the investigation have said.

Documents handed over by News International contain almost 4,000 names, with hundreds more coming forward to say they had been targeted.
