Unfortunately it just doesnt include poor crowds at games, also includes money that gets invested into other areas eg.Prince Of Wales Hotel which obviously wasnt a great investment by the local magpies.Maybe people running do their best but when they are not spending their own money, some decisions made are hopeless and lose alot of money.Like with any industry cant keep expecting to get bailed out of debt.Seen the state government do this too many times.Collingwood were in debt when Eddie took over and as much he gets bagged,he has turned the finances around to now they seem streets ahead of other clubs.Geelong has also been in the same situation,so whilst it wont be easy it can be done.Allan Scott invested good money into the clubs facilities and even if it was right or wrong what he said about Mark Williams,he copped a fair bit of backlash for his comments,as if the clubs comment was just give us money but dont have an opinion.

With the rise in Electricity, water, council rates etc, i think the crowds are going to drop off considerably next year.

How can the AFL be making record profits but so many clubs be struggling ? Fold both SA clubs and bring the people back to the SANFL where it's not tainted by greedy fixtures and stupid rules

And opening the door for the AFL to lever the 2 licences away from the SANFL. Demitriou must be kacking himself thinking "well that was easier than I thought it would be"!
I'd like to be informed of the split of this $2.5 million that the PAFC has generated recently.

In better times the cash cow that was the Crows could have covered off Port's issues. Now we seem to have a perfect storm which includes some sort of protest vote against AAMI and the style and quality of football being put on by both teams.

This season the Crows and Port are taking it in turns to lose to the bottom team at their home ground. That's not a great advertisement to get others to go down and watch them live.

Thats the big factor at the moment. Both teams are experiencing nice membership numbers but crowds are horrible as both are playing a very average brand of footy. Success starts happening and crowds return. But the licencing set up with port at the moment is concerning to say the least.

And as an SANFL fan, this is why it is concerning. Both teams are going through the downside of the artifically-contrived cycle of the AFL. And making all this a media issue now will mean that if certain changes go through, these will be trumpeted as the reason why both teams improve, rather than the normal upside of the cycle. But at what cost to the SANFL competition will these changes be?

Get used to it the Power will need 3 million dollars every year to keep it going the same will happen to the Crows in years to come the novelty of AFL is waning this used to be a great game however with the yearly bastardisation of the rules to satisfy the TV moguls who push this pretty sanitised games to the masses, footy fans have had enough and are returning to the SANFL . The SANFL should get rid of both licences as AFL footy in this state has lost its appeal.

This is often forgotten. The cost of living is through the roof and people are on a budget, if you're running close to the bone financially, AFL games would be one of the first things to go, especially if it's on TV.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Especially when you can go to the SANFL for a 1/4 of the total cost and kick the footy at the breaks and so on!

Wedgie makes a good point. 1991 was one of the darkest years in this state's economic history yet the Crows sold out every game that year.
