Can't happen soon enough then...
A couple of queries though:
> Will there still be regular home and away SANFL games at AO? I'm guessing that all SANFL finals will be played there if Footy Park is to be demolished...
> Will there be SANFL curtain raisers?
> If so, will SACA members have to pay to go and watch SANFL?

I have heard that the SMA is keen to have Friday night SANFL games. I know that 6,000 people in a 50,000 seat stadium will not be a great spectacle or atmosphere though.

The media heat is starting to intensify on the SANFL re stadium return becuase they have the audacity to seek a good return so they can reinvest money raised from AFL matches from AAMI into the sport of Australia Rules Football in this state (ie SANFL league, all junior development and community footy) for which the SANFL is the governing body.
Some elements can only see "South Australian Football" as two AFL clubs when in reality that are at the top of a very large pyramid with the SANFL competition, community football and junior football underneath it. Some 83,000 participants in 2010 (AFL figure) in this state but some they cannot see past the 100 or so local AFL lists
This self investment by the SANFL taking income from football and ploughing back it into football saves the AFL a lot of money if you compare what they have to spend in other states that do not have this arrangement
Going forward I suspect the SANFL will be able to sustain itself and the state league competition through income derived from its West Lakes asset whilst the Adelaide Oval income in the main will help fund successful local AFL
clubs.

On 5AA last night during an interview with Demitriou, he mentioned that the AFL had been putting money into local and country leagues (building facilities etc) around Victoria in partnership with the Vic Govt for the last 6-7 years and that it was a successful structure they had developed. I immediately thought " then why the hell haven't you tried to expand that structure for other states and leagues"
It is THIS mentality and self serving attitude that turns people away from the AFL, puts some of the non Victorian states at a disadvantage and therefore deems that leagues like the SANFL must take care of their own interests, their own expanded state leagues whichever way they can.
Phil, I'm guessing that you have a better understanding of what this entails than alot of us but reading your post and hearing Demitrious comments, the two seemed to supplement each other.

That pretty well sums it up for me. I am looking forward to heading to AO to watch an AFL game as a neutral supporter and catching my regular bus home. Friday night games will be very popular I reckon...CENTURION wrote:it's miles away from Adelaide,
