It's hard enough getting B Grade umpires to essentially volunteer their time, without the abusive crap from people who happen to disagree with some decisions.
You simply aren't going to get quality umpires at Div 7R level. Either have to live with it, play for a club in the higher grades or take up croquet.
I don't know if you saw much of the B grade game Morell, but I know what you are saying it is great people volunteering etc, but people like Fuzz get angry when countless times the player with the head over the ball was NOT protected. I am all for people volunteering, but the basics must be understood and acted upon or else there will be a serious injury sooner or later because a particular umpire continuosly let it happen and for the team he was umpiring for!!!
Very bizarre also that he told the timekeepers in one quarter to blow the siren
Not having a go or anything just think I know where Fuzz was coming from! Every needs its volunteers, but the safety of the players needs to come into it!
Fair enough mate, you make some excellent points and without the unnecessary cynicism of others.
Absolutely agree that player safety is critical, what I will refute is that the Mitchell Park B grade umpire is any better or worse at adjudicating the rules in regards to player safety than other teams B grade umpires. Shadow is football mad, has a very good understanding of the game and is scrupulously fair. Yeah he could get to position better and of course he makes mistakes, but to suggest he purposely ignores dangerous free kicks or puts opposition players safety on a lower pedestal than his own is simply absurd and unfair.
In the lower divisions the standard will never be great and I will not get on here and have a negative whinge because the standard has got a lot better I feel. Going back 3 or 4 years I feel the standard in div 7 was a lot worse!
Perhaps shadow does not get in the right positions? I don't know. While it was a fair contest, a few times it threatened to get out of hand due to the reasons I mentioned in my previous post!
One was right in front of Shadow, where head high contact was made to one of our players while over the ball and not a free kick
Not here to have a go, he is by no means terrible! Good luck for the rest of year Morell.
Only saw the early stages of the A grade, but you seemed to be playing quite well!
