In the Hahndorf v Blackwood A2 game on Saturday, a player kicked for goal, and the (opposition to the kicker) goal umpire called it a goal.
The field umpire then went in and corrected the goal umpire, and made him give it a point.
Now I have kicked a goal before ( this was almost 10 years ago), it was called a point. I protested to the ump who told me that even though he agreed it was clearly a goal, he had no power to overturn the decision.
I have also seen a point kicked by the opposition (this was in 2007), which was given a goal (incidently against the same opposition, same goal umpire, who also I would assume was the same goal umpire in the OV v TV game on the weekend). Once again, I protested to the umpire who advised me that he had no power over the decision.
So has the rule changed since 2007?
By all accounts the kick on the weekend was a point, and as it was the opposition goal umpire clearly no cheating involved, but I am curious as whether the umpire should have done what he did by the laws of the game.

What a ripper season central appears to be heading for in both A and B grades. Ump asked who the big guy at the back of the SCIB huddle at the breaks was. Surely not.
Surely not.........?

Bp, if you look at what happens in the AFL; if the field-umpire thinks the goal-umpire has made a clear mistake he has the ability to over-rule the goal-umpire. As I was also at the game, and saw this, the goal-umpire had made a clear mistake and the field-umpire overuled so that the correct decsision was made. I also had a look in the AFL rules book.
Rule 12.1.5 states that -
(a) - The goal Umpire shall decide whether a Goal or Behind has been scored but may, before deciding, consult with the field or boundary Umpires. The decision of the goal Umpire shall be final. The goal Umpire shall only signal that a Goal or Behind has been scored when the field Umpire signals “All Clear” or “Touched All Clear”, as the case may be.
(b) - Law 12.1.5 (a) does not apply if a Controlling Body prescribes that a field Umpire may overrule the decision of a goal Umpire who has not been appointed by the Controlling Body.
So if the HFL have the same rules on this issue, the goal-umpire decision is final, but the field-umpire has the power to overrule.
