My point is that shouldn't they have at least made an effort to get there for the Maggies game? That was the whole intent of the day I thought. I know that not all can do it but there were hundreds walking in AFTER the main game ie Port v Norwood. ;)

I was also interested to see a number of Magpie supporters leaving the carpark with me.

As long as my side doesn't have to play before a power game I will be happy. This experiment will be over in 2 years and the Magpies will be gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

How was Bassett treated? I am sure he didn't expect the Port fans to cheer him.

The Magpie cheersquad set up near where I sit for Power games and although I was a cheer squad member as an early teen, Christ, the cheer squad is truly a remarkable beast.

For anyone who does not believe in Darwins theory of evolution, they only need sit with the cheer squad for a quarter or so and they'll be convinced Darwin was spot on the money.

As MP said earlier. Embarrassing now.

I go to Magpie games and Power games, probably miss 5-8 of the combined 30+ games the teams play. I miss about 2 or 3 Power games ( due to Team Managerial duties of my sons U16 team ) and the odd Magpie away game ( like South and Central games ). I do my bit. Member of both, season ticket holder of both.

I do my best on here to defend the club and the bulk of our supporters but of the 23,000 that go each week I would say that 21,000 go every week and there is 2-3,000 "swingers".

The thing that shits me the most is that everyone else continually knocks the clubs efforts to produce betetr crowds, offer more "entertainment" ( the footy is enough for me ) and all I get on here is people constantly crapping on about " do it this way - do it that way " etc etc. Truth be known, there is no hard and fast answer to the problem and a move to Adelaide Oval may prove to be the answer, maybe not. Me, I dont know anymore....all I know is, I do my bit.

Booney, my reasoning.

The club (of the Power kind) can do whatever the hell they want. As long as they try to retain the links to the Magpies and the one club theme, there is no way in hell I'd encourage my kids to "support" the Power. Just couldn't let them support anything that has links to the Magpies.

Most people I know think the same.

So when, as recently as 5 years ago, the AFL side of the club tried to distance itself from the Magpies, you were entertaining the thought of supporting them?

It's not unheard of for kids to go against their parents and barrack for someone else. The difference Port have is that they've burnt off all the neutrals, it's going to take them another decade or two before the kids who are too young to remember 1997 have a meaningful disposable income and start pumping it into the team they support.

Myself no. As you know I'm a Carlton Supporter/Member, so no hope there, BUT with Ports list of Glenelg aligned blokes, Cornesy x 2, Carry, Hardwick, Sal, Boaky etc I preferred them over the Crows. If I had to have a fix an AFL I'd go and watch them over the Crows any day, and I would attend the odd game during the year.

The thought of going to a game now, and thinking that perhaps 1 cent may wind it's way back to the Magpies outside of the usual SANFL split up, I can't justify.

Luckily I do a bit of work for the SANFL so I get free tickets for when Carlton play and hence I skip the money into the coffers ;)

The Rugby Sevens got almost 27,000 in total!
And Gold Coast v Carlton got more in BRISBANE!
I knew a long time ago the Power experiment was a total failure but even I expected at least 30k there on a Saturday afternoon.
I hope they use some common sense and cancel all curtain raiser SANFL games for the Power now, complete waste of time.

The Sturt game will succeed because just about every Sturt bloke follows Carlton and hence they'll stay for the main game.

Personally, I think Power crowds North of 25,000 -26,000 are quite reasonable (despite what their submission may have said was expected). Look at the crowds at some of the games between two Victorian teams in Victoria. Sometimes, no or not much better.
I don't think they're ever going to attract too many "neutrals".
I feel one of the main ways they'll grow their crowds is the obvious way - by winning. Three of my friends, were members and now aren't. I think they're not used to seeing Port teams not at the top of the ladder.
Curtain raisers (especially with an hour between games) obviously aren't the answer.
Live against the gate is "wrong". Saturday's afternoon game provided few excuses for such a poor crowd.
I wonder how they'll calculate the SANFL attendance figures this year, with these curtain raisers.

I'm wondering the same thing - hopefully the crowd figure counts for the West End Club of the Year and SANFL Benchmarking Report, because they were our only possible benefits from playing this curtain raiser (other than for the run on AAMI for those who've never played there before).

Port has real big problems. To only get 23,214 there is WOEFUL, especially when you consider

- it was the Power's first home game this year
- it was against a beatable opponent
- Sat arvo timeslot
- perfect weather
- the Crows had a bye therefore maximum opportunity to draw SANFL members to the game
- they gave heaps of tickets away
- Port v Norwood as the curtain raiser.
- launch of the "one Club" concept

The SANFL, AFL and Power must all be scratching their heads today wondering what else they can do to bring a crowd in.
