Can this be explained? I don't understand the new sub rule that well obviously.
Does the game go for an extra quarter if you use a sub player?

.
For the 2011 home and away season, clubs will be required to nominate one of its bench players as a substitute player.
Three players on the bench will be interchangeable throughout the match, as per previous seasons, while the one substitute player can be brought into the game at any time and for any reason. The substituted player takes no further part in the match.
The club will be required to nominate its substitute player when final team sheets are lodged on match day.
Two substitute players will be used in the NAB Cup, as per the trials of recent seasons.
A substitute player will be required to wear a green vest, until he is activated to play. The substituted player who is removed from the game will be required to wear a red vest.
The vests will be used to clearly indicate to the opposition and spectators the players involved in the substitution.
If a club sends a substitute player on field before notifying the interchange steward, the opposition club will receive a free kick and 50-metre penalty.
