Brod, disagree with your thoughts and this is why. In todays cricket, it appears as though the batting efforts of the WK are much more important that the WK. Akmal is not a good keeper, his footwork is terrible, his glovework is ordinary, but he can bat. No coincidence that he was replaced by his brother for the tests in NZ.
Don't know about everyone else, and I admit I haven't watched a lot of the mickey mouse round matches of the world cup, but from what I have seen the WK has been very ordinary. Akmal, Prior are prime examples, both missing chances a grade keeper would take on a bad day. And these are professional cricketers.
Give me the best wicketkeeper first and foremost and then worry about his batting average. Akmals mistakes only cost, lets see, about 130 odd runs and secondly the match.
