I agree the club does plenty, how much is successful is another thing too.
Not meaning to sink the boots in and my point could also be made for North,Port, West or the Eagles (and Glenelg and Sturt when they're losing) but South are the stand out case.
Amongst people I know down South hey weren't even interested when South made he finals but signed up and went to games when Delrae was there, Fev would create more interest again.
IN my travels down south it's AFL, SFL or nothing, any AFL flavor brought to South creates interest.
Anyway, not going to happen, just pie in the sky stuff like my thoughts on having a second AFL side in Adelaide that would get twice the crowds the Power get.

The SANFL are an unimaginative organization. Rehashing last years "tribal" theme is a prime example. The conservative clueless people in SA are driving people out. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the last two major developments in Adelaide were the Whine Center and a one way freeway. What a sad state of affairs.

From the Australian Bureau of Statistics website.

The estimated resident population (ERP) for South Australia was 1,644,600 at 30 June 2010, an increase of about 20,000 persons (1.2%) since 30 June 2009

Obviously. ;)

FWIW, the Northern Expressway goes both ways. Not sure what that has to do with footy but you did ask.

As for "Center" .....

Ron's reputation for demanding total professionalism from his players may be too much for Fevola to handle. That said, there have been a lot sillier ideas put around over the years. For any club, it comes down to a) whether they would be confident they could control him, b) whether they would get the financial and football return it justified and c) whether his recruitment would galvanise or alienate a playing group.

It has already been stated in the press that all nine SANFL clubs ruled the idea out, but I guess for the right price and right reasons, decisions may be revisited.

Fevola would handle it easy to be honest . His problem is not discipline on the training track it is his own lack of discipline off. You can't seriously compare professionalism of AFL & SANFL clubs.I would like to hear what Fullers proffesionalism actually means , if you know ?

I wouldn't think Fuller would be happy with the guy missing team meetings. Fevola might be a massive talent and could out perform everyone else on the field without training or anything, but having one guy play by different rules, no matter how good they are, rarely end up a happy situation (anyone remember the days of Gary Ablett doing as he pleased at Geelong?).

Fuller cut Parry because he couldn't commit totally, despite having an agreement with the club. How would it affect the rest of the players if Fev was allowed to run amok? And if Fev wasn't allowed free rein and messed up how would South look not letting their massive investment play?

I don't care how good he is, the amount you'd need to get him here would not be worth the risk he'd not end up playing and the effect it would have on the playing community. 12 months of a guy who might not be up to playing more than a few games (if that) while risking hurting the whole culture of a club is not worth it, no matter how many people it brings through the gates.

And while he's not Hitler (amazing people even think it's worth commenting we're relating the two in all honesty) he's one of the most influential players around and has been turfed out of 2 clubs who got nothing for him in return. AFL clubs usually go to great lengths to keep good players, Carlton couldn't wait to get rid of him and were willing to set him loose for anything. Brisbane have set him loose for nothing on the eve of a new season. If you think everything would be cool at a new club you're missing several screws.

Yeah, it was fantastic watching Ablett!
Carlton put up with his antics for years, so i dont know about "couldn't wait to get rid of him"

Ablett didn't help Geelong win too many flags. They stopped that culture of letting one guy have a different set of rules and where are they now? You could name a list of all the game's greatest players, one bloke would stand out and it would be Gary, for never having won a flag.

Once he lost the plot completely and the club realised it had done all it could, it took the first opportunity to move him on. They didn't hold out for a better deal, they took the first one on offer.

Show me who has said he's going to stop a club from "ceasing to exist" and I might take you somewhat seriously.

SANFL might be unimaginative, we might live in a state that could do with serious reform. None of that has to do with the topic or any of the arguments. Getting 1 bloke to play 12 months of footy isn't going to revolutionise the league and the state. The suggestion it might is probably an indication of the level of panic people seem to have over this whole issue.

He is 1 man. He's not a witch, he's not the messiah. He's a bloke with huge issues that have affected 2 clubs he's been with in the last 2 years that had resources and personnel that our local clubs could only dream of. Anyone thinking he's going to come in and be a nice lad and just play footy is a fool. Anyone thinking their club culture could change him or keep him in check is a fool. Anyone thinking the SANFL could fork out a million dollars for him to play and "save" the league is a fool. There is firstly, no guarantee he will play footy at any level again. Secondly, no guarantee he will even play this year. Thirdly no guarantee he wouldn't disappear the next season back to the AFL, or go to the NFL or just go back to Victoria, and all that money and accommodation would be going with him. You don't think we'd all love to see an AFL star turn their back on the national version and play SANFL? If you do, you're an idiot.

Perhaps SA is wrong not jumping to get him. I guess then the AFL, Carlton, Brisbane and all the other AFL clubs who didn't want him, all 9 SANFL clubs, his doctors, manager and Fevola himself who admit he has massive issues are also wrong. Have any clubs put their hand up? Or just that other bloke ushered out of 2 clubs? I've always had a theory that when everyone else (especially people better qualified) disagrees with you that perhaps it's not everyone else that's wrong, it's probably just you.

I can vouch for that.
Had a few mates at the time who "barrack" for South and all of a sudden started regularly attending games when Del-Re was playing.

We have had "trouble" ex AFL players before that have brought with them HUGE baggage and problems. ( I wont say names but we know who they are!!)

Once they get into the club the cancer spreads. South supporters have seen this too many times.

No player is bigger than the club......I would stay well away from Fev. :?

Ok, here is my short list:
Robert Harvey
Bobby Skilton
Robert Flower
Nathan Buckley
Tony Lockett
Was there a different set of rules for the first 4? I'll leave Lockett out as I'd dare anyone to tell him what the rules are! :D
