They've lost their best ruckman, their best key position player, their full back and possibly their best midfielder to AFL duties.

3 players ? What midfielder to AFL ? Callinan is a rookie which requires him to be upgraded first .

Crows have a spot available on their list so it is easily done.

Well 5 players if you count Premiership players Richie Cochrane and Adam Switala. What's hard to understand about "nicknames" post? Three quality players, no need to list their achievements. The midfielder is Callinan. I think everybofy on this site would know he has to be upgraded first, hence I assume that's why nickname wrote possibly.
Personally, I think the Eagles and Bays will make top three this year.

Obviously didnt watch to many Dogs games last season.

Schell at times was lucky to hold his spot, age had definatly got the better of him. Over this decade he has been our best KPP no doubt but last year he was definatly on his last legs.

We have now replaced him with a bloke (Obst) who is at a similar stage to where Schell was when he came back to the Dogs plus Obst has proven he can play SANFL level already.

Only 'real' losses for the Dogs so far is McKenzie, Lawry and then possibly Callinan (i still think he will play the required 5 games for the Dogs)

Throw in Chad O'Sullivan as a possibility as well as Charles Slattery and we have added even more midfield depth. Also if Havelberg plays more games this year the Dogs will be an even stronger side when he plays we are a 5 goal better side imho.

Its also a much healthier squad this year with 4 league regulars who had delayed pre seasons last year due to operations having no such issues this season.

Well, when you say 3 players, they're 3 key players. Obst covers one certainly, but just from my club's point of view, we haven't lost any key players and IMO have not lost a player from our best 21.
The Bays have lost one key player, Mills. So I think your losses are greater than some clubs.
Callinan would be favourite to be the nominated rookie, meaning he can play the entire season with Adelaide.

I thought Bennett, Bronik Davies, and Chris Chubb played a fair bit of league football last season. Throw in Munn, Champion, Rowe and Barber and you have lost abit of depth to a club that already didnt have much depth.

Have recruited Fisher 'potentially' could be a gun recruit but is just as likely to watch as many games as he plays due to injury.

The rest of the recruits there is alot of question marks about ala MaCreadie only had an average VFL season. Bailey returning, how has the year off treated him, Carter returning AFL player who knows.

To be honest i dont think many teams have really IMPROVED there squads this year and which ever teams can get more out of there current players will be the ones to improve. Has been a very slow year in the transfer market.

True, but he (Schell) was pretty important, as per usual, in the finals series and the GF. Even though he was playing with a dislocated shoulder.

Yeah agree his experience come finals was invaluble and once again he stood up.

If we were fully fit this year and had Schell i think he would struggle to get a game in the forward line this year with a fully fit Havelberg, Obst, Hynes Westoff and possibly Gunston and Henderson available.

Guys, this thread is about the Foxtel Cup. If you want to talk about clubs that are too scared to ply their trade or represent their state on a national level then there's plenty of other topics for you.
Probably too hard to put some odds together especially not knowing how seriously each team would take it but my money would be on one of the top 2 VFL or maybe WAFL clubs.
If all AFL players are available it'll be hard to go past the VFL sides.
Going to be interesting!
I sometimes struggle to get enthused enough to travel 15 minutes to SANFl games but will be making every effort to attend every North match in this comp no matter where it is inthe country! :D

It's going to be great seeing the North, West and Port guernseys on the national stage and not just at suburban level!

You obviously don't know much about West's players, WHUFC.

Davies struggled to play league last year and I suspect wouldn't have played it this year. Chubb retired before the end of the year after a very brief league stint, realising his body wasn't up to league any more. Bennett played league, but his form dropped off and he's still on our list anyway.

Barber didn't play a league game and I can't remember if Jeremy Rowe played either none or one league game. Simon Munn retired as he was at the end of his league career.

On the opposite side, Fisher would be the best credentialled recruit to any SA team for a fair while and Chris Schmidt will be with us again.

Several players had greatly interrupted seasons last year, including Ferguson, Anderson and Hill.

As for Schell, you would know he killed us most times we played you.

If you're including AFL players for Central, then we could see some of Moran, Pettigrew, Davenport and others.

Agreed, given some of the smart alec comments from North and West, especially if they lose.

I haven't heard any but I don't expect the SANFL sides to take it out. (Seen plenty from bitter jealous knockers though)
If North get knocked out early I'll certainly be cheering for West or Port as they'll be representing South Australia on a national stage. Really looking forward to seeing the various styles from the NT, Qld and WA since I've already seen a bit if the VFLrecently (which impressed me).
Also a good chance for supporters in other states to see their teams live on TV!

See your website and Collins Advertiser article. Before then, I would have been happy for a good showing by the SA sides.

I think its abit of a lose-lose sitution for the 3 SA teams in the Foxtel Cup, even if they win it most outlets people will be talking about how the best 3 sides werent even there. If they lose the comp or have a player injured playing or struggle the week after playing these games they are going to get jumped all over.

Interestingly i overheard a club CEO saying that his 90% confident this comp is only going to be around for one year, especially if Foxtels ratings arent as high as they hope for.

It has a very Carling Cup feel about this comp.

Cheers!
Read that link, while I don't think North were being smart alecks in that piece they do appear to me as being hypocritical for their stance on clubs abiding by the Commissions decisions!
Or maybe they were having a sly dig at the SANFL and the commission and how different clubs get different treatment, if that was the case I'd agree with them and their sentiments but I still take their comment as the first way I interpreted it. ;)

What was the feedback form North fans regarding the clubs statement Wedgie if you dont mind me asking.

The statement doesnt seem consistent on past messages released from the NAFC board.

I can't find the Collins article, I'd imagine most posters here remember the gist of it. It's mentioned in the other thread re second tier comp.
