Who is the Kangy coach?

Hodge is a superstar and would win the country mail medal if he played. He is a loyal Victor boy though. Saunders is good but just an average to good player, and always injured!

that is sad although not surprising.
would they have enough to put 1 team up? surely if they begin forfeiting games HFL will lose money so they should just put them in C grade.

It isn't sad anymore because this is all of their own doing. I played seniors in the clubs' heyday some 13 years back, still very fit and would love a run if they played 'C's. By all reliable accounts they have FLATLY REFUSED to do this despite being urged to do so by every knowledgeable man and his dog. I'm too old to get my arse and spirit kicked every week to the tune of 60+ goals. Would much rather have a good day out with the missus and kids and have a competitive kick in a fair comp. Does anyone know which clubs are in C's this year?

Can't speak for other clubs but I think Lofty's aiming to re-enter the C's, all welcome. After a few years out of the game I'm thinking about chucking the boots back on, depends how heavy their schedule's gonna be.

Think I might join you JQ with Coach Dolman - is there a spot in the forward pocket maybe?

I am local and just heard it will be all over for the Eagles in the next few days. Like a lot of posters here I am all for the Eagles playing C grade, but they refuse to do this saying it will 'bring the club down'. Never heard anything so stupid in my life! No-one there seems to know anything about football administration which is why all my boys play elsewhere. I once had a dream that my boys could all walk down the road, play competitive footy, make friends, have drinks and walk home safely. As usual, no notices around the town looking for players. I reckon the Eagles deserve all they get, they haven't even tried. Sorry but it serves them all right.

A real shame that the very hard work of a number of people like Michael Holton (and the rest of the Holton family), Scott Jolly, Paul Vanson and many, many other people in those early days, getting a club together from scratch and fighting a lot of obstacles, to put a team on the park, has come to this. The finals charge of 1998 seems many lifetimes away now.

I guess for those that decided that playing C-Grade would bring the club down - you just don't get it, do you? The club was formed, in the first place, for people to enjoy their footy at the right level and for the right reasons. Sounds like some people there now could have done a lot worse than actually going out and talking to some of the people who did the hard yards in day one, to get some thoughts, ideas and feeling for the place - rather than a bloody minded attitude of "knowing what was right". That same attitude looks like costing a town a footy club.

If this is it - RIP Eagles. It was great being a part of you for so long, and a real shame it ends like this.

What happened CK? Where are you now? I know you tried to turn them around, were you met by opposition?

Good to hear so many posters reminiscing about the Eagles but by all accounts it is over. It all went west when the ferals took over, bring back the good old days! CK I reckon your family was in the formation too else you wouldn't know so much about the old days. Forget trying to turn them around mate, they are useless.

Everyone who tries to turn the Eagles around by offering constructive advice is always met by opposition. It's nothing new. They continue to live in total denial of their situation and the HFL supports it all by failing to act when they have the power to act. The appointment of their coach for this year says it all. 'C' Grade is the only option for normal people to consider. If they're too proud to go there, they're totally selfish and ridiculous. Maybe the committee can explain their doings to the juniors when the club folds.

In regard to Callington fielding a team in C grade, where would their juniors play on sat if there wasn't a senior team to follow?

The HFL has always cheerfully accomodated Div 1 clubs which have too many juniors, such as Hahndorf and Mount Barker. They have allowed their second tier juniors to play in Div 2 when those clubs have no Seniors to follow. They could do exactly the same for Callingtons' juniors.

I've said it before but I'll say it again (with CK's blessing)

The main players in getting Cally started years ago are long gone.

The Chief (Scott Jolly) got a huge job offer early on plus his brother died not long after.
The heart (Buddha and Nevin Van den Brink plus many others) are unfortunately long gone.
