I am local and just heard it will be all over for the Eagles in the next few days. Like a lot of posters here I am all for the Eagles playing C grade, but they refuse to do this saying it will 'bring the club down'. Never heard anything so stupid in my life! No-one there seems to know anything about football administration which is why all my boys play elsewhere. I once had a dream that my boys could all walk down the road, play competitive footy, make friends, have drinks and walk home safely. As usual, no notices around the town looking for players. I reckon the Eagles deserve all they get, they haven't even tried. Sorry but it serves them all right.
A real shame that the very hard work of a number of people like Michael Holton (and the rest of the Holton family), Scott Jolly, Paul Vanson and many, many other people in those early days, getting a club together from scratch and fighting a lot of obstacles, to put a team on the park, has come to this. The finals charge of 1998 seems many lifetimes away now.
I guess for those that decided that playing C-Grade would bring the club down - you just don't get it, do you? The club was formed, in the first place, for people to enjoy their footy at the right level and for the right reasons. Sounds like some people there now could have done a lot worse than actually going out and talking to some of the people who did the hard yards in day one, to get some thoughts, ideas and feeling for the place - rather than a bloody minded attitude of "knowing what was right". That same attitude looks like costing a town a footy club.
If this is it - RIP Eagles. It was great being a part of you for so long, and a real shame it ends like this.
Can you guess where I'm calling from, the Las Vegas Hilton...
