I just dont see why the squad was named now? Was that a time requirement? Surely you would want to wait till after the OD series.
For starters, Tait and Lee are only just coming back from numerous injuries and wilderness, neither has really proven they have form back, and being fast bowlers it's a fair chance it never will come back.
Johnson, Ponting, Clarke and even D Hussey really aren't in the best of form (and that's being nice with a couple of them). Sure they are all good players and could find it in the next 6 OD games vs ENG, but if Clarke fails 5 times in the remaining 6 games do you really have faith he's going to find his long lost form magically in the first WC game?
Smith and Hastings have yet to prove they deserve a spot, if they are to be considered then they should both be playing in this OD series (and Smith should be bowling). However atleast these two are young, not sure they are the best young players that could be picked, but I guess it's a start...
Even the other guys have a bunch of clouds over them, Bollinger is only just back from injury, Hauritz has no backup spinner in the squad - which while I think he's prolly the best of an average bunch, picking your spinner for certain this far out is odd given the merry-go-round of spinners selected for the last 6 months.
Basically leaves Watson, Hussey and the two Keepers as people who I think 100% deserve the spots in the side (and the keeper choices were rather obvious).
Are countries allowed to replace players in the squad still or only in the case of injury?
Simply put I dont think this side can win the WC, and if we dont have much of a chance of winning, id atleast like to see some young blood in the side.
