2011 SANFL Draw

it is disgraceful, especially considering some people can't afford season tickets, now i might go to these games & see if using my glenelg season ticket works & pay at the gate for the glenelg game.......if that doesn't work it will mean the neutrals can't go at the sanfl rate either & a norwood or sturt match against port would get over 5,000 as a 'stand alone game' given a decent night
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

To be honest I don't think there is a problem with that.

Simple solution: Get a season ticket. Only costs about $30 extra than a home game ticket and you get to see every game home or away. Also the money goes back to your club/SANFL instead of the AFL.

Simple if you go to the majority of games, a lot pick and choose depending on other commitments and I know a lot that pencil in the Norwood/Port games

Agreed... I generally go to a Port v Norwood Game @ least once a year.

Pathetic by the SANFL... How does this 'help' the Magpies?
It doesn't, simply designed to aid PAPs... me thinks it may backfire on them.

Does my Eagles Season Ticket get me in?
If it does, then I'll pay the $11 bucks to go to the Eagles game & use my season ticket to see Port v Norwood.. then leave before the PAP's game :)

Given the new model of "One Port" means the Magpies are basically a subsidiary under the Power, if it helps the Power then surely that helps the Magpies?

I understand the reasoning... just think they picked the WRONG opponents.
As previously stated, Norwood & Sturt could draw 6K+ as night games @ AO.

If it was about the Maggies, then they should've gone with South, West or Eagles - lowest opposition fans.

It clearly is NOT... they expect to 'hide' poor crowds for the AFL Overbosses IMHO

Why are you blaming the SANFL?

Your question is how does this help the Magpies? It was well answered by CP, but perhaps you should ask the Magpies themselves.

My guess is that they would have asked for it and the SANFL obliged.

They may well have asked for it but...

Surely, the SANFL have stipulated that the games be Port v Norwood & Port v Sturt... hoping to increase the crowds @ AAMI Stadium.

Me thinks if it was the Magpies choice, they'd prefer to host both games @ either AO or Alberton to maximize revenue, instead any revenue generated is going to the AFL club

It's a Port Adelaide Home Game so they can do what they want with it. And Port supporters travel to the Parade, Adelaide Oval and Unley giving bumper crowds, unfortunately the same can't be said for opposition supporters at Alberton, leading to crowds of around 3000 average.

And all revenue goes into the ONE Port Adelaide account, no matter who generates it.

Is that why lots of North Supporters have been seen at Alberton the last few games. More people should turn up, but last year Port had more then 6000 members, then why didn't more members turn up for games to boost $$$$ for the club.

Over 7000 actually and yes, they did show up to games. If they had not joined nor attended the future looked very grim indeed.

This would counter your argument that they showed up.
2010 Home match attendances
5) Port - 3,051 per game ( +60pg 2%)
Fair discrepency between 3051 and 7000.......even if every person at the games was a Magpies supporter, which you know the weren't.

It's fair to say a large percentage of the paid up members didn't show up to every game. But they were still paid up. And that for a club which finished 2nd bottom. The majority of Port supporters travel to opposition grounds, bolstering their attendances but a vast majority of other fans refuse to journey down Alberton way.

They may travel on occassions, but not the majority and not to all grounds. At Noarlunga, about 350 - 500 would attend on average.

Grimmer than what happened to the Magpies only nine or so months later? Crikey.

I reckon only 500 or so turn up to Unley also
And to beenreal's comment, your members didn't know that you would finish 2nd bottom, let's see if they can back it up this year? Doubt it.
