Merki, I am with IO, what is going on, won't anyone answer your posts. But seeing you are talking some sense. Sayers had rookie contract with SACA and in the old 2nd 11 games, he took 7 wickets in the last one he played. Then lost his contract and hasn't been thought of since. Was very strange move, given he bowls genuine outswing at around 120-125. I think the selectors see this as the problem, no quite quick enough. Unfortunately with the new U23 format and only allowed 3 overage players, the chances of getting a game are nil for un contracted over 23 players, which is now is. I think from memory his birthday is a few days too early, anything after Sept 1 this year is the line for age. So irrespective of what we think, he will be confined to being an outstanding Grade cricketer.

From what ive been told, Sayers was told he was not tall enough to be a danger in state cricket. Gone are the days of a smart bowler! :?

But surely with the deadbacks results over the last few seasons being average at best, he would have had a crack. If he plays a couple of first class games and gets belted all over the place so be it, at least he's had a crack.

Merki, please......... stop making sense. How can you question the state selectors. They have a got a string of interstate rejects to consider before they start rewarding local boys for their performances in the Grade comp. Surely he is worth a try.

I wonder if there is a personality conflict between Sayers and the Redbacks selectors.

In Sayers bumper years what % are First Class cricketers he dismissed? There seems to be the general assumption that he doesn't have the pace to perform at that level. Much like Paul Rofe in his latter years. Batsmen just picked him off as they pleased.

The CA futures League also cooked Chad's goose too, lost his rookie status because of his age.

In regards to chad

he is born on the 31st of august meaning he misses out on the u23 comp by 1 day!

I have played a fair bit of cricket with and against Chad and was always surprised when he was not given a shot. especially in those 2 years when he dominated attacks.

When I asked him why, the answer was the same as you guys have said, he was told he was to short and didnt bowl fast enough to be a genuine quick.

The frustrating thing for him I would think, was he played reserves footy for the ealges when he was younger but gave footy away for cricket when i think if he had of continued may have been good enough!

Can anyone enlighten us to why the two A Grade games were called off yesterday, I know we had a bit of rain early but surely not enough to completely call off games. Bulls game started at 1.52, probably should have started an hour earlier but umpires very cautious about player injury.

Prospect Oval is a Disgrace!! The cricket club should immediately start looking for a new home as the slightest bit of water and it turns to a bog. I played my first ever C grade game there a couple of seasons ago and it rained on the Wednesday and by Saturday they still couldn't get a deck ready for us.

Can't wait for the brilliant sunshine next weekend for the Test match

Bice Oval was dug up by some unknown cretin --- took off the covers and went to town on it with a spade.
I believe police are investigating.
Sad way to end what has been the side's best ever winning streak (starting late last year) of eight in a row

H31, I think very dependent on who does the wicket, I know at Perti our curators worked on wicket from 8.30 till around 12 to get it playable and there was 22 players helping when required.. I think Prospect is council, which means they wouldn't see anyone on the weekend at all. If Perti was the same as that, we probably wouldn't have played either.

BTP, in my view your run continues with your next game, that game is listed as abandoned, you get the 7.5 points and your winning streak is intact. Good luck with the police investigation, can't see a property damage being a high priority in their crime stats, unless they have something fairly good to work on.

I found it highly amusing earlier this year when 2 cricket grounds less than 500m apart 1 has a significant delay whilst the back oval gets away on time :?

often happens, sometimes they dont play on Perti and get a full game on bulkana! different wickets, different amount of traffic on the oval in winter.... many factors!

H31, assume you are talking about the home of cricket Perti and Bulkana. All to do with the depth of the clay. Bulkana is about 4-6 inches and then sand underneath. Perti has about a foot to 18 inches of clay. Plus Bulkana has 4 wickets and Perti 7, Bulkana is fully grassed, Perti after the 28 teams have played football on it all year, takes a bit of time to recover and fully grass up, not to mention the issues we have had over the past 3 years. I could go on, but Bulkana will generally always come up, Perti hopefully when we get it right has slope and draining issues, don't worry though, we are probably working harder than most to fix the issues.

I like the way you think, BF :D Next up is a team called Sturt ------ if we can knock that crew off even ONE in a row sounds good

Carey, nets at the Gully would be second only to Adelaide oval, Sleepy and his cronies doing fantastic job. I will visualise you drooling as you imagine batting on them.

BTP, make early inroads into their batting, they would have best top 4 in Grade and don't lose early wickets, Cece & Thommo thriving again this year. Easy to say, harder to do, they are obviously early favourites and I see they are in 20/20 final V Port.
