There is a lot of guessing going on here, and most of it is off the mark.
Respectfully.....................many Clubs send someone to these meetings, who does not want to be there and is sent by their Club as no one else wants to go...........so checking with the Delegate in many instances is never always the answer. Anyway this is not set in stone as yet and apparently still too be voted upon, which gives some hope to it being overturned, although this appears unlikely. It would appear that Big Brother has told the SAAFL what to do and this is going to be accepted. The Financial impost on the SAAFL would be severely put under strain if they do not toe the line according to sources
I would hope all clubs sent
responsible people last night. This was always going to be a big decision.........
A show of hands was called for to give indication as to whether to go with it in principle, and if passed would be signed off on at the AGM. The vote was overwhelmingly in favour, and has no hope of being overturned.
The SAAFL are pretty well the last body to join the CFB (I believe there may be one or two leagues who have decided against it, but I could be wrong there..). As mentioned earlier in the thread, the representation of Nobby Symes from the B,L & G League was great. He was 100% honest about what would happen to SAAFL clubs if it didn't go through.
Our clubs would be decimated in trying to match the money country clubs are willing to throw around (some players $2000.00 per game). It would have sent many clubs to the wall trying to do it, and most clubs would have their lost their best players, and who can blame the players going for that kind of loot? We all know what happens most times when that slide starts.........
A lot of players would head bush for the money, someone mentioned last night TTG lost 6 players to one country side alone last year. That's what this is trying to do - stop the mass influx & mass exodus of players as clubs try & buy a premiership.
One thing everyone must understand, the SAAFL Executive will have the right to grant concessions themselves, &/or support a club's concession to the CFB. Furthermore, as stated by Glen Rosser of the CFB last night, they have never not granted a request............. This is where cases like CBC's will be judged on individual circumstances, I am sure they will not be left in the lurch - that is what neither the SAAFL or CFB want.
Rest assured, there certainly is scope for the SAAFL & CFB to assist individual clubs with solid cases. It is not us bailing out to anyone, it is the league being supportive of football overall - and in this case it does several things.
a) It stops what could be a stampede from the SAAFL to country clubs.
b) It saves the SAAFL clubs a lot in match payments.
c) It will stop clubs from a big slide if they lose their best few players, then a heap from the 2nd string.....
d) It will stop lower clubs from being the big boom club if they should be suddenly very wealthy for one reason or another, and all their recruits are of top quality and generally paid a fistful. Again, we all know that never lasts..........
I really fail to see where this can be detrimental to any club other than those who absolutely MUST pay someone to play for them (ie, everyone).
