good bunch of blokes at rose park even when their skipper asked 3 other bowlers to
have a crack at me, and the three saying no they didnt want to bowl![]()
clarke bowled like a machine and the spinner (sorry dont know the name) had 3 for 0
then 4 for 2 then after that well you know the rest....... maybe i might give the bowling away and learn to bat properly? also well done smithy from vista on making a ton also .
After seeing last seasons effort against Fitzroy of 157 i didn't think i would ever see another innings like it but after hitting 129 from 51 balls on Saturday, Smasha is the undisputed destroyer of bowling figures in this comp! I don't think they can make a ground big enough for him!
Smasha must of been a fan of the late great David Hookes. I once heard Hooksey say similar to this, "From my first delivery and onwards I will try and hit it for six, if I can't then I'll hit a 4, and if I can't do that any runs will do". I thought at the time that's BS Hooksey, every batsman needs to get their eye in, most batsman will look for that little trickle to fine leg to get off the mark, generally batsman lock up shop the last over before drinks and nearly every batsman is looking for that quick single when on 99! Well I haven't seen a batsman yet live off Hooksey's theory till Smasha hit his 1st ball in both games against Rose Park for 6 and never looked like hitting it anywhere else!
Congrats on the ton Smasha, couldn't believe it was only your 2nd and you appeared very humble at achieving it. For what it's worth I wouldn't be changing your technique (fair to say you're on the wrong side of 30 to do that
