not yet, but i reckon by the end of the week (hopefully)... honestly im not in the no...

have heard from a VERY reliable source that 1 Ben Porter has applied for the Plympton senior coaching role. Bit of a step down for him, but a huge pick up for Plympton if he has applied. would think he would have to be top of there shortlist. A quality A grade coach, also with league experience. could be just the thing plympton need to take the step up to div 4

Yeh well I heard Ben has taken the maccasfield coaching job, was very keen on the plympton job but didn't even get a phonecall which blow's me away. Can't wait to see who plympton name as coach!

Ha, why doesn't that surprise. Why don't Maccelsfield give Plympton their dregs? I hear Simon Johnson is available for Plympton. It would be a good fit, cos God knows that club needs an 'Impact Coach'!

heard that rumor too... also heard rumors about him (obviously they may just be that), and there not exactly glowing... i do not know the bloke and im not at all having a go at him. i could've of been told porky's... so please dont think im having a go.
heard he may be in line for the SHOCS job...

Don't let a couple of people on here with an axe to grind get in the way of the sort of coach and bloke Ben Porter is. He was at our club for 4 years and the work he did from when he started to the when he left was fantastic, also arguably done a lot of the hard work to us making a grand final appearance in 2005. The belief he gives young blokes is 1st class (Hints why he was appointed at South Adelaide). The work he also did at Cove should never be ignored and he turned their young list from mid-table/cellar dwellars to handing over the reigns and to Greg Anderson and winning the SFL flag.
If he was there for the takings I believe he would have been the perfect candidate for a club like Plympton (And I said that 2 months ago), but not meant to be.
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

you think the club was in a better state when he left than when he joined?? 2001 we won no games and got relegated in div 5, in 2002 in div 6 we won 8 games and finished 6th..in 2004 we won 8 games and finished 6th..

the reason we got to the GF in 2005 was in the influx of mitchell, baxter, burgess, tamarappa and the ruckwork of casey..its cattle mate..if you havent got it you dont win..imo

congrats to scotty on coaching your B grade boys again next year LK :)

If he coaches the way he Captains Coromandel Ramblers Cricket Club A Grade then i reckon some of our players may be in for a BIG shock. Runs a tight, strict regime from an outsider looking in. Doesnt accept mediocraty. Could be a good appointment i reckon.

So plympton reps on here. is this true that B.Porter applied for the coaching position, and was not contacted at all by the football club??? If this is true, what an absolute disgrace! It's no wonder you would have to extend your applications for coaches. When coaches of this calibre are simply ignored! and to appoint someone who is quite simply only a B grade coach. (who coached B grade whilst porter was coaching A grade at the same club mind you?? yea, some sort of board and selection panel you're running down there! If this is the case, it's no wonder your stuck in div 5!

as i stated in a previous post... i assume the committee would think the same... all ive heard are bad reports about him.. also forums on here don't speak highly of him.
few people who ive spoken to from valleys (i also assume the committee would have been in contact with them as well) aren't to keen on him either very good sources. they said he's trouble... not sure we wont that at PFC...
no one in SFL will hire him so im pretty sure thats telling you something...
as i stated in a earlier post, i don't know him personally and im sure he's a good bloke, i can only go on what ive heard.
anyways moving on...

personally im rapt with the appointment, and very much look forward to seeing how the new coach goes and some new ideas to the club..

Well done to the Plympton Footy Club, you have now got yourself someone who is willing to develop the young and turn your club into a strong one. The work ethic that will be required will be enormous so get yourselves ready.

He will definatly do that. The only reason I could see people giving him a bad wrap would be because he does not take shit from anyone and will give it back to you. So maybe he has stepped on a few toes, which plympton might need, you never know!

I don't know the ins and outs of the B Porter application, so i cannot comment. But untried coaches need to start somewhere.

Maybe the philosohpy that B Porter had was not the same as the Club's? Any way it is all speculation.

I welcome JC, he's a pain in the arse to play cricket against but i reckon he'll tell it like it is, which i reckon PFC needs.

First i would like to congratulate justin on his appointment as coach next year . Alot has been said in regard's to the Ben Porter situation my concern is that it seems the interview panel has taken as gospel what a few people at his most recent club have said about him(negative comments) and WUB to even bring up comments said on this footy site as having any credence at all is laughable! Anyone can say anything on this site about anyone without signing their actual name to it so things said on here should be taken with a pinch of salt.I think the interview panel should at least have given Ben the opportunity to defend himself against any concerns the club may have had, he's coaching experience alone should have at least got him a phonecall. I would be interested to hear what other forum user's opinions are on this.

Just like any other sporting Club on the planet, the Club does not have a responsibility to do anything. The Club can do whatever the hell it wants to with regards to who it calls, who it interviews, and who it doesnt. The Club does not owe Ben Porter anything, rumours or no rumours.

Move on, bring on JC...
