Nice catch. You need to invest in a scale bag to help clean them easier. Just cut the tubes length ways and put about 20 at a time in the bag and chuck it behind you as you drive back to shore. Makes cleaning them a hell of a lot easier as you basically just clean the edges of the wings. 8)
If you don't like it, change it. If you don't want to change it, it can't be that bad!

I like my calamari in rings though mate!

I bought a scaling bag for this trip but wasn't sure what to do with it-will definitely be trying it next time, but will just take the heads out and put them in there...

Cleaning wasn't too bad anyway.. Took 3 of us a couple of hours...

just take the heads off and chuck the bodys in a fine mesh bag and then place that in the scaling bag steam home. very little cleaning to be done (some people cut a little off the end to help clean the inside a little more)

i mainly fish out of cowell where whiting (king george/silvers) snapper squid garfish tommys aus salmon big blue swimmer crabs and the odd flat head are what i target. i mainly fish out of a boat but do enjoy fishing from the beach.

the blood worms ran not that long ago, whiting and squid are on at the moment.

o and puffer fish are a real pest at the moment
enjoy your fishing and footy BOH

Well today I thought I'd start my 2010 assault on the Lake
Have to say how bloody cold the water was ICE LIKE.
Flicked a fly through 2 beaches walked a third that was covered in algae and spooked 1 40cm fish.
So I got cold for no fish oh well always next week !!

I did go in commando style in my shorts !!!

went on my first fishing charter on friday through work
went out on double header charter boat which leaves from pt broughton.
We travelled across the gulf towards Whyalla where he has spots, first 2 or 3 there was nothing as we were a bit early on the tide, so we tried a whiting spot where we caught 18 legal whiting and there heaps of baby snapper being brought up.

We then went on to a few differnt spots with no real luck, one spot we got a small legal one and one big legal one over 75cm. We left there and went to the last spot.
On approach there were 4 boats next to it (which turned out to be pro boats) so that was a good sign. We anchorred up and dropped out lines, we were about 20m away from the other 4 boats, they were bringing up snapper one after the other while we were getting nothing. then the tide started to move around abit and then we got 1. was a big one, about 10kg. Then I hooked on and brought up my first ever snapper which was about 10kg.
In no time everyone had got 1 and I even got a second one. We had to bring our lines up as we had our quota and couldnt catch any more.

In the end it was a good day, everyone got to go home with a snapper and 3 nice king georges aswell.

Ill try and upload some pics off my phone and post them onto here!

After my Victor trip got cancelled for this weekend.
I went for a flick along two of my favorite haunts at the lake yesterday. While me being me I should have used sinking line and varied my flies .Of course I left the floating line on and went with my popper flies.
While I got zero fish .I did get a fair few mini Bream to perform aerobatics while trying to eat something they couldn't grab. Jumping bream always gets my heart a ticking.but its better if they take the fly.
Tracking along these two beaches .I was trailing a school of something all I can tell u is they were small and thin (pencil garfish not certain or white bait ).And 3 or 4 loved to hit my moving popper but they were very very small.Of course I was trailing this school in the hopes that something bigger was trailing them!!!
I had a little chat with a fishing mate most of the time his sounder in his yak was a beeping .And I was scaring the bigger bream as I waded past them!!!
So guys it was great to be back and casting a fly .Probably better that I'm doing that after a winter free of fly fishing on a day when the bigger fish weren't quite
ready to jump out the water .
Big tip for those of us suffering from diabetes take your water bottle or end up dehydrated again like me lol
Cheers
guys
Ps
i did scare the odd larger fish I could see their wake near the fly when I moved it at the wrong time while having a homer simpson moment doh

Had to put a pick of this monster up boys.

Caught it at Edithburgh early this year on Marion Reef, 52cm and 1.21kg. Make my Abu look pretty small! Not bragging or anything :D

Somehow I think this thread needs a bit more attention lads and ladies. Just a thought...like the "What place is that...?" thread can we start a "What fish is that....?".

I have a look for a starting fish pic... feel free to add one.
