MITCHAM BY A POINT OVER THE NEW PORT
ST.B BY 8 POINTS OVER I.A COUTESY OF 3 LATE GOALS....4.6 TO 1.7
NA FIANNA OVER FON BY 2 POINTS IN A SEE-SAWING AFFAIR...2.11 TO 3.6. GOOD SKILLFULL GAME PLAYED IN GOOD SPIRITS![]()
From what i saw on Sunday(didnt see friday) the standard has improved very much from last year. Both of Sundays games could have gone either way.![]()
The new interchange rule has improved our game in several ways. The key positive being next to NO stoppage time in games.![]()
FINALLY WELL DONE TO BOTH ST.BRENDANS AND IRISH AUSTRALIANS FOR PAYING TRIBUTE TO NORM MURPHY WITH A MINUTES SILENCE BEFORE THE START OF PROCEEDINGS TODAY.... A LITTLE BIT OF HUMILITY AND CLASS FOLLOWED BY A FANTASTIC FOOTBALL CONTEST WHICH WAS THE FIRST EVER GAME I HAVE EVER REFFED WHERE NOT EVEN ONE TICK WAS GIVEN.
Its looking like its going to be a competitive year with all teams a chance to win any game they compete in.

Yes an average display from the Taints yesterday, but as some of the crowd offered after the game "the Taints have now won more games than they usually do before Christmas" so at least thats a bit of a poisitive...
I thought Matt Doecke had a quiet game by his standards yesterday - he probably only had a measly 75+ possessions (and 400 dream team points) whilst continually running off State forward Tony Huebner who had very little interest in chasing Doeckes aka the smiling assasin!
The Taints hope to get Clayton Lush and Linc Rogers back in, and if we get 5 or 6 injuries maybe even ZC will be able to force his way back in for round 2. Good to see the Taints getting some more Polish class into the team, with big Sam Joraslafski playing only his 2nd State league game and probably being best for us yesterday.

NA FIANNA v PORT...I expect this game to be even all over the park except in the kicking for points. Na Fianna will legitimately have over 2,000 games more experience to call upon. Throw into the mix the return of Bruno Rocca and the sublime form in defence of "Bacon Fingers" Duurland and im tipping FINNS 6-10
MITCHAM v WI....I didnt see either team play but spoke to several people about these teams performances. Cares, Soxy and TommyG are the real dangers for the Goats but alas i feel a sleeping giant will be awoken this friday night. WI GOATS 6-10
MATCH OF THE ROUND
ONKAS v ST.BRENDANS....Could this well be a Hannigan Cup Dress rehersal. Perhaps a little premature for predictions like that but both teams have a litany of stars. Sunday hangovers may well be a deciding factor. Based on the fact that the Saints seem to enjoy a Saturday night Shandi a little more im tipping an upset over the Cup holders in what should be an absolute cracker. ONKAS 1-5
IRISH v FLINDERS....Both teams where unlucky not to get the chocolates in Round 1 and both teams had a lot of talent on display. This game really could go either way. Will be very even all over the park. Not sure of the guys name but FON have an exciting fwd sporting a fairly average looking head band. Looks a real talent. im gonna take FLINDERS 1-5

as it has been said before, game was played in terrible conditions..lots of swirling wind and a wet ground. Port played well for a first up game, had lots of run and carry with a good mix of size and speed. they will definately trouble teams as they become more experienced. great for the hawks to get a first up win on the board, in the MVP votes were ozzie, gomez, soxy, mason, tommy g, rolfe & sutcliffe. On a side note, if anyone out their is keen to coach we are looking for someone after loosing Peter Parry to work commitments...
