The Gowans twins are a liability at the moment. Will Laird risk dropping them for a final? If not, it could be a blessing for who ever plays them. They are clearly not pulling their weight in that side.
Just my opinion.
Hardy was excellent today for Central as were Gum, Herring and Nelson for the Blues. Very pleased that our season is still alive and that the lads have produced some of their gutsiest performances in the past 2 weeks.
You are probably right Purch. But Laird is focussed on maximising our chances of winning the GF. The twins have both been out of te game for a long time and need matches under their belt to peak. I find it fascinating that Laird chooses to play them - maybe at the expense of losing a minor round game or two - to give them the game time ready for the finals. I would think that come finals time we will be choosing our best possible team each game.
Interesting observation doggies4eva. I can understand playing them now to find form. Do you really think Laird would drop one or both of them if they play a poor finals game? Surely there would be riots! But I think that IS the test of a good finals coach, a la Phillips dropping Capt Thredgold in the 2002 granny. Perhaps they will run into form between now and then...I guess time will tell..
I just looked at their stats - Chris had 17 disposals and 8 tackles and James had 20 disposals and 2 tackles - not so bad! The dogs have the record of dropping Scott Lee for a Grand Final so I think that they are capable of making the hard decisions - especially Roy Laird.
