The Gowans twins are a liability at the moment. Will Laird risk dropping them for a final? If not, it could be a blessing for who ever plays them. They are clearly not pulling their weight in that side.

Just my opinion.

Hardy was excellent today for Central as were Gum, Herring and Nelson for the Blues. Very pleased that our season is still alive and that the lads have produced some of their gutsiest performances in the past 2 weeks.

You are probably right Purch. But Laird is focussed on maximising our chances of winning the GF. The twins have both been out of te game for a long time and need matches under their belt to peak. I find it fascinating that Laird chooses to play them - maybe at the expense of losing a minor round game or two - to give them the game time ready for the finals. I would think that come finals time we will be choosing our best possible team each game.

Interesting observation doggies4eva. I can understand playing them now to find form. Do you really think Laird would drop one or both of them if they play a poor finals game? Surely there would be riots! ;) But I think that IS the test of a good finals coach, a la Phillips dropping Capt Thredgold in the 2002 granny. Perhaps they will run into form between now and then...I guess time will tell..

I just looked at their stats - Chris had 17 disposals and 8 tackles and James had 20 disposals and 2 tackles - not so bad! The dogs have the record of dropping Scott Lee for a Grand Final so I think that they are capable of making the hard decisions - especially Roy Laird.

Re the Gowans, Sansbury and other senior Dogs returning from injury, it always takes 1-2 games to get "match fitness back", i.e. used to the repeated efforts required in footy. So the result is not that unexpected given the CD players returning from injury and the consequences for Sturt if they lost.

I expect the Gowans, and Sansbury to be much better for the run this week.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I don't think it's a "hard" decision, at all. Chris and James are match winners (still), especially in finals. Their form hasn't been too bad anyway. It's great they keep get written off, by those that may have seen them play a couple or a few times a year.
I think the hard decision was retaining Ryan Williams last year when his form was terrible. The decision to play him proved correct. I'll back Roy's finals record anyday.

This candidate for post of the year from cdfc.info

Dogs are getting smashed at training. I've got no concerns.

And can I just add, I've never seen Roy experiment so much with players playing out of position. And Roy was coaching from the boundary line. I reckon we threw this game!

Would agree with the experimentation aspect, the coaching from the boundary line and the hard training regime BUT there is no way Central threw this match or would ever throw a match. It may have not been as important for us to win as Sturt BUT I am sure none of the boys like losing to the same team three times in a season.

Cheers

As Laird was coaching from the boundary line I hope he didn't over step the line

Cambridge Clarrie wrote:Great work today by the Blues. Impressed with the performances of most players. McLeay and Fittock good down back, Giles exceptional once again and Herring put his hand up and showed that when he attacks the footy he's the real deal. Enjoyed Vassal, Cubillo and Reilly too.

We certainly seem to have the wood on the dogs this year. Hope we get the chance to play them in the first week of the finals. If not, hope we get the chance to play them in the second week (if we make the finals at all!).

There'll be a few teams a bit worried if we do get in...

Nice to see you back Clarrie!!! You went quiet there for a while ;)
Is out of change.....thanks Cambridge Clarrie!!!

Of course , none of the other teams in the finals race train hard before September. Roy is a genius, and every other coach is incompetent.
