Will Pucovski - Retires from all forms of cricket

Post by Jim05 »

Sad but listening to him and he sounds like he is still feeling the effects of the concussions.
He is still young enough for his health to hopefully improve and he can find a career path that suits him.
He does seem good in the media and I think he is coaching Melbourne in the VIC Premier competition next season

The focus is his health
A lotta people gunna feel sorry for him that he cant play cricket, and I agree with them
However he is getting married Friday , he can start a new phase of his life
The main thing now is focusing on any repercussions from the concussions
Very sad

Sad we never got to see the best of him for an extended period at the top level.

Feel like he'll be a pub trivia question in the future!

Probably gets a decent insurance payout because he's declared medically retired.

If he's the head coach of MCC might be getting $30-40k beer money!

Makes you wonder how dinged up our heads are after all the knocks through footy and cricket over the years plus the other acts of stupidity.

I'd have no idea how many times I went off after a head-knock only to tell the coach ten minutes later that I'm good to go, copped a couple of hits to head fielding in close with no lid as well as some batting............................I think I just answered my own question, or made some sense of a few things.

I honestly think some people are more predisposed to concussion than other, and I reckon this applies to symptoms and after effects as well.

Yes, you'd think he could find a helmet that could absorb the impact better, I haven't seen a compilation of his head knocks so I can't really judge.

There’s a large body of evidence that suggests that headgear does not provide much, if any protection against brain injuries such as concussion.

Cricket helmets are obviously used to prevent head trauma by a hard ball, but not so for concussion.

Yeah, it's your brain banging against your skull that does all the damage

I understand experts in the US are trying to ban helmets from the NFL. They charge into contests with their head because they are 'protected'. Craziness.

Disappointing for the lad but a smart decision.
Just doesn't pick up the short ball well enough.
It's a bit odd because he just looks the goods till a bouncer comes at him.

Terribly sad for Australian cricket that we never saw full careers from two batsman with great potential - Will Pucovski and Phil Hughes. In different circumstances, they could well be lining up as the opening batsmen in the upcoming WTC Final. One a classic, stylish right hander and the other a flamboyant, unorthodox left handed stroke maker.

Thankfully, Pukovski has a chance to forge a different life than the one that he seemed destined for. May he have good health, live a happy life and treasure his baggy green.

I still can't work out how a bloke with so much talent, skill and great hand eye couldn't play a short ball better. I mean he played a test and nobody clicked he couldn't play the short ball long before? Reflects badly on the coaching I believe.
I remember when Andrew Hilditch had an issue with the short ball.
A mate that played with him said he'd set the bowling machine to max speed and face bouncers for ages.

That's a bit too personal.

You’d hope not!

Not sure on junior numbers but there doesn’t appear to be the same numbers playing as 5-10 years ago
Someone might have some stats that’s involved on here
