Adelaide Crows 2018

Post by Brodlach »

Drafts and delistings over, time to put the disappointment of the Grand Final behind us and look at 2018

Article from AFL.com.au with the best 22

B: Rory Laird, Daniel Talia, Jake Kelly
HB: Luke Brown, Kyle Hartigan, Brodie Smith
C: Paul Seedsman, Rory Sloane, Rory Atkins
HF: Tom Lynch, Taylor Walker, Richard Douglas
F: Eddie Betts, Josh Jenkins, Mitch McGovern
Foll: Sam Jacobs, Matt Crouch, Bryce Gibbs
I/C: Brad Crouch, Riley Knight, David Mackay, Hugh Greenwood

DEPTH

General defenders: Kyle Cheney, Tom Doedee, Curtly Hampton, Andrew McPherson
Key defenders: Alex Keath, Andy Otten
Midfielders: Jackson Edwards, Cam Ellis-Yolmen, Jordan Gallucci, Sam Gibson, Lachlan Murphy, Myles Poholke, Matthew Signorello, Patrick Wilson
General forwards: Ben Davis, Darcy Fogarty, Ben Jarman, Wayne Milera
Key forwards: Harry Dear, Elliott Himmelberg
Ruckmen: Reilly O'Brien, Paul Hunter

NOTES: Half-back flanker Brodie Smith will most of the season with a torn ACL, but is a chance to return late in the year. When he's out, Paul Seedsman or David Mackay will likely shift to defence, while Curtly Hampton will also be pressing his claims. Andy Otten, Tom Doedee and Alex Keath will be considered if the Crows want a like-for-like replacement for Jake Lever. I can't find room for pacey forward/winger Wayne Milera or experienced former North Melbourne midfielder Sam Gibson, but both will be close to selection. - Lee Gaskin

We have been saying it for the past few years, but if Talia and Jacobs keep fit I think its hard to see us missing top four. We have the depth to replace most others.

I would like to see the likes of Milera, Galluchi, Poholke, Fogarty, Hampton make life really hard for Knight, Seedsman, MacKay, Douglas etc

You guys follow the fringe players far more than I would, but the depth doesn't look that flash to me. As Jim and Benny said, keep healthy (particularly Jacobs and Talia) should see them comfortably top 4.

Some of our recent draft picks havent really been tested because we have had good runs with injury. Milera and Keath being the only real exceptions to that. Greenwood came in and played all year which was awesome and replaced the spot we thought CEY might get before he got injured.

Players like Cheney, Hampton, Keath, Otten and OBrien have all shown they can play a role when required, and thats not to mention the draftees who hopefully should get a few games too.

Cant think of too many other sides that have better depth. GWS is an obvious one, and Sydney always seem to find players from nowhere too, but its as good a depth as most

I think ROB is s ready made replacement if Jacobs goes down. Keath looks ok too and another pre season under his belt will greatly benefit him

I see plenty more improvement and upside in the playing group.

Expecting Crouch x2, McGovern, Greenwood to improve again with hopefully uninterrupted preseasons.

Lower tier players to improve Milera, Doedee, Hampton, Keath, Poholke, Gallucci which will all be pushing for starting 22 spots.

We no doubt will miss Smith and Lever so expecting a shuffle of players in the back third.

Ellis-Yoleman and Gibson good cover in case we get injuries.

Cheney and Hampton are rubbish. Hampton hasnt had a good run cos of injuries but Cheney is the worst player on the Crows list. He would be up there with Toumpas for Port and Masten for the Eagles as worst players in the AFL Every club has atleast one spud that everyone likes to bag

Disagree. Good honest player. Doesn’t have much talent but gives his all. The complete opposite of Toumpas

Anyone who can play is the complete opposite of Toumpas

But if you happen to get a run of injuries, can they play not just “a role” - but 12-15 games and perform?
Adelaide’s depth can’t be really rated as it hasn’t really been tested.

Cheney Hampton and keath have shown they can play consistently at afl level.

O’Brien and our draftees? Agreed, they haven’t had to do it yet

Keath, the one that played 6 games in his first year has shown he can play consistently at this level? Interesting.

No, I don't think so. I feel we can get it through the summer, most of 2018 and then, all going well, beyond 2018 too.
