End of minor round ladder.

Talk on the national game

End of minor round ladder.

Postby Spargo » Wed Jul 23, 2014 9:47 am

Noticed some predictions on the round 18 thread so thought it a good idea to start its own up.

After round 23 I have the ladder as:

Sydney 72
Hawthorn 68*
Fremantle 68*
Port 60•
North 60•
Geelong 60•
Essendon 52^
Collingwood 52^

* Hawthorn currently 6% ahead of Freo.
• Port currently 20% ahead of North & Geelong (who both have similar %)
^ Essendon currently 3% ahead of Collingwood.
These will obviously change over the next 6 weeks.

As I have it, first week of finals might look like this,
Fri Night - North v Collingwood MCG
Sat - Sydney V Port SCG
Sat Night - Hawthorn v Fremantle MCG
Sun - Geelong v Essendon MCG

Not sure of any agreements as to where finals must be played so happy to stand corrected.

just clicked on the winners, so percentage could change a lot depending on results, but this is what i have.

the big game to decide it seems to be crows vs collingwood (i have assumed crows lose to north melb but beat collingwood and the rest of the teams)

I dont think so. North have shown countless times that against the best they can bring their best, and also Geelong have shown this season that they are vulnerable and not the side they used to be.

Trying to predict the coming weeks is impossible,

So many games that are 50/50 and I'll be having a dabble at a draw here and there. ( No drawn games this season to date, 2004 was the last "drawless" season and only had 8 games per round Vs the 9 now )

Collingwood v Adelaide
Collingwood v Port
Gold Coast v Port
North v Geelong
North v Adelaide
Sydney v Hawthorn
Hawthorn v Geelong
Geelong v Fremantle
Fremantle v Hawthorn
Richmond v Essendon
Gold Coast v Essendon
Essendon v Carlton

Cracking month of footy ahead!!!
PAFC. Forever.

LOOK OUT, WE'RE COMING!

My Ladder predictor:
72 - Syd
68 - Hawks
68 - Geelong
64 - Freo
56 - North Melb
56 - Ess
52 - Port
52 - Collingwood
----------------------------
48 - Adelaide
48 - Gold Coast

That's having Port win one more game v Carlton in Rd 22 at home
Crows losing to Collingwood and North Melb, but winning the rest
Collingwood play both SA sides in VIC followed by WCE in Perth then Brisbane and GWS in consectutive weeks.
Suns miss out after losing last two against Ess and West Coast.

Considering Geelong are currently second (and the 3rd side plays the top side this week) and Geelong don't play the top side how do they drop down a spot?

I had Hawthorn to beat Geelong in Rd 22. Also their percentage isnt as strong, and in actual fact if Freo can win against either Hawthorn or Geelong, then the Cats could well finish 4th.

if we lose another game in the minor round, it will be against North. should win every other game.

I wasn't questioning your choices, I was questioning your ladder where you had all the higher teams winning.
I was just saying mathematically its impossible for Geelong to drop from 2nd if the higher placed team wins every game seeing as they don't play the no 1 team so for that ladder they should be on 100% wins.

Revisited the ladder predictor

Ive got
72-Syd
72-Hawks
68-Geel
60-Freo
56-Port
56-NM
52-Ess
48-Adelaide

48-Coll
44-West Coast

But Adelaide will prob lose to StK in the last minor round match to miss finals!

Probably go W/L in those matches like they have for the majority of the season.
