and we just played brilliantly didnt we? the 6 goal margin was very flattering for the catters.

the fact we couldn't get a mark inside our forward 50 was disapointing. Geelongs ability to clean up around their defencive 50 was amazing.

well played catters. seeya in september! ;)

We deserved to lose though...all that offensive pressure early in the third and fourth terms and we didn't reward ourselves with it.
Very disappointing.

Leon, where was he?

Collingwood were on a hiding to nothing.
Lose, they're pretenders.
Win, it doesn't count, as it's not September.

The only thing the game wasn't, was a high scoring shoot-out, & perhaps wasn't the spectacle it was built up to be.
Collingwood's loss doesn't make them pretenders, as neither does Freo's loss to them previously.
People are quick to write off sides that lose to other good sides- it's not losing the 50/50 games, it's losing the gimmes that should cast doubt.

well, that's not bad in itself.
Can't see any team going through the season unbeaten, if Essendon 2000 couldn't do it.

Agreed PR, it's not bad, just pointing out that their only two losses are against quality opposition. It'd be worrying for the Pies though, knowing either Geelong or St Kilda will be up there challenging them either 'for a spot' or 'in' the GF. They'll have to turn it around to win the big one - which they're quite rightly in the market to do given form outside this game.

I would like to think that the Pies learned more with the 2 losses, than had they won both games.

I was impressed with the way they dismantled Freo & the Bulldogs, frustrated that they couldn't execute their high scoring game plan against the Saints or Cats.

I like to think that these losses will keep their season "real", & allow them to benefit in the long-run, knowing they haven't achieved yet.

He has been woeful this year and was again last night.

Time and time again we fell down across half-forward. We moved the ball far too slowly when we were going forward and Enright, Scarlett and Taylor had a field day across there.

PR, for what it's worth, I heard on Game Day last week (I think) that Collingwood had got over 50% (if not 50% then some pretty high number) of their goals through turnovers against Freo, WB and Carlton. I knew that the Cats wouldn't turn the ball over as much as those teams, hence I picked Geelong.

Collingwood would be concerned about their scores against the Cats and Saints. 6 and 4 goals, whereas they were scoring heavily against all other oppositions. It seems if you keep the turnover count low against the pies then they may struggle to score. Someone with more time and effort might be able to tell us the score % per opposition turnover for Collingwood vs the rest of the comp.

Leon Davis, another reason I picked Geelong. He goes missing in big games for some reason. No doubt a REAL talent, but consistency and performing in big games is killing him.

Totally agree with the call on Davis.
Never has been a big game player & should of been traded, Mick should of dropped him weeks ago.
Collingwoods 1st half was good, the aggression at the ball & body of Geelong forced them into turning the ball over numerous times, Collingwoods forward line is their biggest problem, Beams was the only highlight for them, time & time again the backline & midfield worked overtime to get the ball inside 50, only to see it bebound twice as quick because of the non existant forward line pressure & presentaion to the right places.
The same intensity & work rate like the 1st half is needed for 4qtrs to beat a class outfit like Geelong ( the team to beat once again )

you've certainly backed up your hypothesis with sound reasoning & strong facts- good work.
Collingwood have also been wasteful in front of goals in both those games- due to highly effective defensive pressure by the Saints & Cats.
For mine, that makes them a valuable betting proposition against the weaker teams, but not against genuine contenders (at least until they work on that part of their game)

Collingwood aren't crap, just not at the same level of development as Geelong, the Saints and the Bullies. As those three sides start to fade a real window of opportunity will exist for Collingwood, Freo and Carlton.

You might be right, but I have a suspicion that Malthouse left something in the cupboard friday night. The use of his forward line was strange to say the least.

It wasn't strange at all. Their half forward line was standing the best half back line in the comp and couldn't get a sniff.

Ugh, probably shouldn't feel so hollow considering we were lucky to escape with a draw. Struggled to get an easy kick inside 50m after the first quarter.

Swanny & Pendles sensational. Brad Dick a great return to AFL. O'Brien the only player prepared to bust lines.

On the other side of the coin, Davis and Spudhurst deadset frontrunners, Fraser lazy and ******* soft. Heath Shaw beaten AGAIN.
