Weird Question

Postby the big bang » Tue May 11, 2010 11:34 pm

A different one, but i'm sitting here a bit bored, and thinking about my Pies traveling across the country this week, and this question hit me..........

and obviously i never want this to happen to any team, but.......

what would happen if the plane was to crash with no survivors?

would we forfeit this week, and our next 22 play the rest of the season?

would the club sit out the rest of the season?

yeh, i am bored!

It has happened to a few sporting clubs over the years...

Most notably the Manchester United team in Munich, 1958 and the Marshall University Football team in America (the movie We Are Marshall)

After events like these some of the major sporting teams in the world actually split the travelling squad up, so if disaster strikes, they dont lose the whole team.

Bubsy's Babe still competed in the 1958 FA Cup they lost to Bolton Wanders. On the day of the crash they lost eight players and it was attempting a take off in bad weather after refueling in Germany. They club did continue competing with a makeshift side and made the 1958 F.A. Cup which they lost to Bolton Wanders.

The Marshall Football team was coming back from East Carolina University they lost not just coaches and players they also lost boosters. (boosters are alumni who assist with Financial aid to the University.) Marshall were also under NCAA infractions for recruiting violations. Marshall put a team back on the field using freshmen with special permission from the NCAA. It took the NCAA a few years to allow freshmen to play at varsity level but Marshall did how that freshman could play at that level.

If a plane full of Collingwood supporters crashed they'd never e able to recognise any of them due to a lack of dental records....
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

My guess would be..Forfeit the weekend’s match, and then try to scrounge up players (reserves, rookies, VFL top up players?) for the rest of the season I would have thought. AFL would have to be very flexible about it.

Also would need coaches, support staff etc. Hmm, maybe forfeiting the entire season would be on the cards.

Or the Argentine Rugby Club the movie "alive" was about where the began to cannibalise each other.

If Collingwood crashed in the Alps who would go first?

If Eddie was on board he'd be first definitely. He's got a good supply of crackling on him these days, would roast up nicely.

Maybe if there was a way to stuff all their supporters on the plane as well we can entertain this plan.. I mean hypothetical.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

If it was Richmond nobody would notice the following week.
