POWER Board discussion - ROUND 8 - Port Adel v Carlton

Postby GWW » Sun May 09, 2010 9:32 pm

Port will be aiming at 4 consecutive wins this Sunday afternoon against Carlton. The Blues have had an excellent recent record at Footy Park however so will be a very tough opponent.

The extra 2 days break should give Port a significant advantage, I think they can win by about 3 goals.

I'm not overly confident with my prediction REB, if Murphy, Judd and Gibbs play well, we could be in trouble.

I'm swayed a little bit by the extra 2 days break, but i do think it could go either way.

An important consideration. Playing against the Saints could prove to be quite a taxing match as well. Luckily you only had the Crows the week after you played the Saints.

Port by 18 points. It's going to be a tough match, hopefully Port are up to it once again.

They only play good every second week ;)
Just kidding. If we play anything like tonight it should suit a big AAMI stadium. Push all Ports defenders up the ground then run back hard. Something Port do fairly well aswell. Could see a very congested midfield at times. Carlton by 23pts at this early stage.

Based on what I saw of the Carlton game against the Saints on TV I'd be surprised if Port got near them.

H2H all things being equal I would think we'd be a bit stronger than Port.

However, Port have had the extra 2 day break (stupid scheduling by the boffins at AFL house), Carlton are coming off of the Dome and travelling to Adelaide. However Port losing Treadrea will hurt them. That will free up a tall defender, Bower, Lucas or Thornton.

Port have done ok at AAMI this season as well.

Still can't decide whether the 2 day break will make that much difference with a home ground advantage, given I had Carlton about 2-3 goals ahead of Port everything being equal.

Agreed. If Carlton come out to play Port will be no match for them.

Stupidity by Nick Salter cost him a spot this week. he has been the outstanding SANFL forward this season and he gets a one game Suspension in the SANFL the week Tredders gets injured. i would love to see Daniel Stewart rather than Schulz get picked

Agreed that was stupid by Salter. He has been close to playing for Port for a while and with Tredders injured now was his chance to impress, but unfortunatly blew it. Schulz to come back in for mine.

Carlton have some decent form behind them so it will be very tough to get over them. But Carlton can be a funny side at times in between there good wins over Geelong and St,Kilda they lost heavily to Collingwood. But still tough one to call. Power, by about a goal.

Ablett was picked up and thrown into the ground head first. A report every time under the same rules that got Darren Milburn pinged against Richmond that day. Nothing soft about that suspension.

Interesting that none of those named on the bench have been named for their local clubs.
Hitchy, Carr, Schultz, Stewart all down as outs due to playing for the Power and Logan and Trengove not named for their SANFL clubs.
