Best Goals You Have Seen..

Postby Turbo » Wed Apr 14, 2010 12:17 pm

I was watching a footy DVD I was given for xmas and it had a collection of the greatest goals from the last 40 years or so.

This has probably been discussed before but what are peoples thoughts on what are the best goals they have seen. This can be in the context of the game or for the purely spectacular.

I have 4 that spring to mind:

Eddie Betts - goal of the year 2006 against Collingwood
Gary Ablett Sr - 1989 GF when he jumped over the ruck contest and snapped it
Tony Hall - In the State Game - in the pocket now named after him
Peter Busustow - against Geelong in 1981-2? Prelim Final when he smothered the ball then snapped it. Think it was goal of the year.

Craig Bradley at Princes Park running Checky from about 40 out, think it was 1995.

For freakish, Lloyd's back heel goal.

My greatest goal of all time would be by Nick Davis, but which one? You pick. ;)

Personally am a fan of team lifting goals, mick mcguane's running goal against carlton in 94 and phil manassa in the 77 gf come to mind

That goal won goal of the year against Motlop's and Woewodin's a few years ago. Absolute joke.

Should have been a throw. He threw it back between his legs it bounced then he kicked it.

I reckon Daniel Motlop kicked one a few years ago against Brissie maybe ?? from about 50+ on the run, checksided.... I liked that one...
I love grapes. With grapes, you always get another chance. You know, if you have a crappy apple or a peach, you’re stuck with that crappy piece of fruit. If you have a crappy grape, no problem-just move on to the next. ‘Grapes: The Fruit of Hope.

Wrong thread I know, and it pains me to type it, but Paul Weston's last quarter goals in a big clash (in terms of finals placings) between Glenelg and Norwood in 1982 were all huge .. If ever a bloke has picked his team up and put them on his shoulder and dragged them over the line, this one stands out to me.

Weston also kicked an uplifting goal for Essendon in a grand final against Hawthorn that helped get them (Bombers over the line), I think it was 83 (or 84).

Yep 84' mate .. Leon Baker and Billy Duckworth did similarly, particularly the former who had a huge last quarter for the Bombers

Aker's goal for Brisbane from the pocket Kardinia Park springs to mind.
Also there was a Richmond player not long ago who snared one from the pocket. Might have been Patrick Bowden??? I remember watching and thinking that'll take some beating.
