Anywho, Surjan appeared to cop a blow to the neck/head region when tackling/smothering Eberts attempt at goal. This would have been seen by the doctors and the doctor would have been concered about neck/spinal injury. Keep in mind, many people suffer neck/spinal injuries and not feel anything to begin with and make the problem worse by standing/walking right away. Also, when the opposition gets a run on would you deliberately take off your most tenacious half-back?
To then say he was fine afterwards is irrelevant as the doctors by then would have examined him and found him to be ok and he returned to the field to enjoy the win.
Interesting comments by Hird On the Couch last night, saying Sheeds often mentioned that if required he would send the stretcher out to slow th game down if the opposition were getting a run on.

A player was hurt, the stretcher came out, the player was taken from the ground and examined. I feel so much better now, like a weight was lifted from my shoulders...

After the game (4 minutes later) he seemed pretty fit hugging and high fiving players laughing his head off. Guarentee he plays this week as well and of course he needed the neck brace on after running over 20 meters after the incident.
This cracks me up i would think Port would be trying to play by the rules and avoid all possible chance of being fined, geez i don't think Port are in a financial position to be handing money to the AFL.

You make it sound like he was fine. Not once did he lift his affected shoulder. It stayed by his side the whole time.
Port hasn't broken any rules. Perhaps it was outside the spirit of the game, but that's what the AFL has become - win at all costs.

So when players stage for free kicks dozens of times during a game thats in the spirit of the game? Clubs and players will take advantage when and where they can. What Port did was within the rules of the game and for what its worth i didnt think it affected the result. And im sure Port didnt want Surjan (as a member of the clubs leadership group and a good defensive player) off the ground at that stage of the game either

Its not in the spirit of the game hence the fine system that has been bought in to clamp down on staging.... Kane Cornes in particular!
As for your last sentence well obviously they didnt care because they ran out told him to lay on the ground and carried him off
