Idea to increase Power crowds

Postby CK » Mon Mar 29, 2010 1:10 pm

I haven't put this on the Power board, as was interested to hear the thoughts of other fans on this.

The club is blocking out some seated areas this year with large banners, to ensure that crowds are kept tighter together. Was wondering if it was worth exploring the idea of, rather than blocking out these sections, a couple are opened and used solely for standing patrons only? Given the seats flip up anyway, it wouldn't mean that seats have to be permanently taken out - would allow for those more old fashioned fans that like to stand at the footy, to watch the game in that manner and not disturb anyone that is seated behind them. Thought it might be worth exploring anyway.

Hence why I specified this is for Power games only. For Showdowns, it would not be feasible, so for all home games apart from Showdowns.

Not a bad idea CK.

The only thing that will increase our crowd numbers is winning in an attractive fashion. I feel this is on the horizon.

The other thing is the time slots our games are scheduled in, fortunatley we dont have too many more Sunday lunch time games. Last year we had Melbourne here at lunchtime on Mothers Day and Fremantle on the June long weekend at the same time. We have a Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night four about 5 of our games this year, that alone will increase our numbers.

Not playing like a mob of ponces might also help. A much harder Power looked to be about the place yesterday.

On a side note CK, did you notice the sections blanked out had some sponsorship from House Brothers on there?

Sturt sponsor -- Sturt AGM -- The way Sturt voted on the proposed Port/Magpies merger? Interesting.

Blocking bays off is a crap idea (and this is nothing against the Power, I said it in September last year) and makes me less likely to go to a Power game.
My suggestion is to vote the Libs in and build a new stadium, if that doesn't happen there's no hope IMHO.
Oh hang on, too late.

With only 22k there yesterday the blanking off of the bays worked well. Im all for it. If it makes the crowd sit closer to each other and builds atmosphere I dont see a problem with it.

To be honest, any time we can hide the BAYS away the better. Right am bays? ;)

One thing that would help is if they can do a better deal with mother nature

Seems like if it's a power home gome it's going to be raining. Fertilise your lawn the day before a Power home game I reckon.

Collingwood vs Bulldogs being shown live and the Power game on each side of the news instead of only 30 minute delay?

Agreed it seems the Power always have the early or late sunday clashes at AAMI, up against a Foxtel live telecast.

One thing I noticed is that the members area at Power games is the most sparce, why dont they block off some of those bays?

Closing the 'new' stand should be one of the 1st options. Trying to make the crowd look bigger would be helped if you didnt have a couple of thousand sitting up in the stand...

1 play decent footy
2 reduce the gate price or have kids free days
3 reduce the food and drink prices
4 stop playing live against the gate - despite what Demetriou says, it must affect people's attendance
5 prize for 30,000 person through the gate (plasma or LCD or tickets to something meaningful)
or 6 prize for spectator kicking a checkside goal from the boundary
7 buy a full priced ticket (or season ticket members) get a free beer/pie/$5 bet on the game.

just suggestions, I know some of it is out of their control but it's wroth a try.

ive suggested this before, unless rain is predicted leave it shut, surely that would save a heap of staff/catering costs also

Give a new car away every home game...$30 000 for a car would only be $1 from each ticket if you could get 30 000 people there, and the chance to win a new car would surely grab a few through the gate. If you attended 10 home games of 30 000 people you have a 1 in 3000 chance of having a new car in your driveway at the end of the season.
