Bunji past it?

Postby Gingernuts » Wed Jul 22, 2009 3:46 pm

Geoff Roach had an interesting article in the 'tiser today:

http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/stor ... 28,00.html

I would say that it's pretty obvious that McLeod's best is behind him. He is still a very dangerous player however, and has proved this year that if an opposition fails to tag him then they will pay.

As far as I am concerned he still deserves his spot next year as:
- He takes a tag every week that would otherwise go to another team member.
- He provides a mature head to balance the young talent.
- He can still perform individual acts that could win matches.

My verdict - Bunji stays next year if he wants too.

hate to say this as he was my favourite player growing up as a kid, but i think if any of the fab three go he will b the first, i seen a few of his second efforts againstt st kilda and they were virtually non-existant... this has been evident in a few of the crows games that they lose and i think it might b rubbin off onto a few of the other players aswell, which would b y we get beating much bigger margins when we lose insted of fighting out a game...

Cut McLeod. Has to go before he embarrasses himself like Peter Burgoyne.

His Showdown performance this week will be telling.
Tags aside, does he still have a genuine desire to compete and work hard?

If he doesn't, then the Crows hierarchy may be asking him to step aside at season's end.

I obviously haven't watched as much Adelaide as you have mate but is McLeod still drawing a tag?? I honestly can't remember anyone tagging him this season. He appears to be strolling around in second gear just racking up the games. As an opposition supporter I hope he continues to do so thus denying a young player a spot on the list. He's as hungry as a Hawk IMO. He has been a great player but I don't think he is offering anywhere near as much value as even a year ago.

Unfortuantely finished I think.
Like bobster was my hero.. had 23 on my guernsey.
Lacking passion and work ethic it seems. What about play as crumbing/small forward pocket for the rest of the year?? ...knows where the big sticks are!

Yes, he still gets the tag. Collingwood let him go free in the first half of round 1 and he cut them to pieces. It's a catch 22 in that, if left a bit looser he'd still be carving things up and we wouldn't be talking like this. But that's the exact reason why he does cop the tag every week. I guess as he gets older it's either harder for him to shake or harder to keep up the motivation to shake it.

He's never quite worked as the crumbing small forward which also makes it harder. Wanganeen was able to go forward and get 2-4 goals. I don't know why Macca hasn't been able to do this as well.

They're my observations anyway.

Whilst he was offensively dangerous in that game, most people seemed to over look the fact that his direct opponent kicked a few goals himself, something Marty Clarke isn't particularly renowned for .. For mine, McLeod still has very good skills when he can get himself in position to use them, but he can't consistently hurt an opposition and goes missing quite regularly, appears to be one that goes well when the team is motoring along.

I agree Hondo that the small forward role would be ideal, and you would think he's capable of contributing as much as Porplyzia, but for some reason never has ... Im not convinced he's in the Crows best 22 any longer, but Im also not convinced there's enough talent in the squad to replace him yet.

I'm not convinced he should go on TBH

But if he wants to, and the coaches can find a suitable pinch hitting role where he can add value, then why not. You're right about the depth of experienced talent not being there to take over from him.

It will come down to a matter of bad timing for macca and the other senior players in question. You'd think this discussion will be the same for alot of clubs this year with senior/great players, but not many will have given the club so much and so many games as Goodwin, McLeod and Edwards.....appologies to Burton but he's not in their league. Alas the Divine Leader Dimitriou has spoken!

No he is not in my opinion, has another year in him. He is still an extrwemely dangerous player... imagine playing your whole career under that tag preasure. of coarse he is bound to have a few quiet games with that close attention, week in week out. It was obvious how he performs without that tag last night.

Too dangerous not too tag IMO.

Edwards and Bunji, goody all to finsh next year.

Yep, that theory was proven on the weekend again. The opposition can choose not to tag him, but they do so at their peril.

Keep him as long as he can remain fit and wants to stay as far as I'm concerned.

In general I think the older blokes (ie Burton, Goodwin, McLeod, Edwards) are thriving this year as they have quality support from the younger brigade, taking the pressure off them to be match winners every week.

I reckon that previous post says it all though, he can't shake a tag .. When he can run un-checked he wreaks havoc, but the important bit is that if he claims an opposition stopper, he should have enough teammates to relish picking up that slack.

Awesome game from him tonight, and despite what I previously had doubts about, shows there's a place for him in 2010 unless someone presents a better option, which I cant see happening.

His best game i have seen for quite a while. His intensity was great and he even tackled well tonight.

Not looking good for the 4 veterans we decided to keep on. Sure Goodwin will slut across half back and justify his existance but the other 3 will struggle. bad decision to keep any of them

Definatly a bad decision to keep an All Australian last year and one of our most consistant midfielders (edwards) geez posts like that makes you think sometimes..... How often people say things they obviioulsy havent put any thought into

Goodwin will play an important role across half back hitting targets and going inside 50... sluting you say????
Edwards was brilliant last year still gets around fine and if he can be at the feet of kurt and walker then he is great goal sneak and set shot
McLeod agreed is past his bext but still provides more do date than a younger player who with aditional time against the men in the SANFL will make a better transition into the AFL
