Div 5 clubs like us do it tough each year because clubs in higher divisions promise our kids the world and teach them that playing for the highest bidder is the right thing to do! When it's not!! I'd like to see you try and build a club from Div 7 (2005) with limited financial resources and Div 1 and Div 2 clubs pinching all of our juniors year after year. You have no idea what we go through so don't get on here and tell me that athelstone are doing something right because they're 3 divisons higher than us.
Gotta go, I'm off to spread some community joy and play the pokies. End Rant.
S Demon how come you seem to know so much about the Raggies ins and outs and how much money they spend. R u involved in the club somehow or do you have inside information. I wouldn't have thought it was public knowlegde what the raggies paid for players or coaches?

You obviously missed my point if that's your respopnse. How I know what I know is irrelevant
Not every junior player leaves a lower grade club seeking coin. Maybe they want to better themselves and play at the highest level they can, just like leaving to play at an SANFL club. Case and point, Moons from HV went to Salis Nth for better opportunities in the State U23s and to play footy with mates. I wouldnt think that the lure of the $$ would have been a driving factor. he probably got as much with HV for best players nearly every week. I guess u have to accept that good players may not stay and be loyal if the standard and challenges arent there for them.[/quote]
Sure moony wanted to better himself, but when state coaches are also club coaches he was assured of getting a state game! Also to be told if he isn't playing div 1 & 2 he would not get a look in for state game is wrong.Anybody from Div 1 to Div 7 should be able and encouraged to play state footy in they are good enough. This is saafl and the selector's should go to any grade to watch someone! I think you find he has a lot more mates at Hope Valley then at Salisbury North buy the amount time he spent at their club!!

Yes, not always possible for clubs to meet player's requests or demands all of the time. Just another case of a 'club always being bigger than the individual'. We wish him well.

That's 3 of them there now, Clonan, Henderson and the other bloke whose name I'm not allowed to mention in case it upsets him & his family!
Capergreco
U idiot! No, not him and I'm not telling you otherwise I get death threats from his FIL. He's your great white leader and you can't even spell his name. Shame on you!

by the way aceman have you heard where toby bowman is playing. He was working around the corner from home last sat and forgot to ask him. good luck to walkies for getting chris, i had a go for him also, but just got the feeling he may well be oseas for the whole season imo. whats more money wasnt the issue, felt like he had more to offer a club than what gx thought he could offer them fwiw. and i"ll give you 2 mins to respond aceman

Exactly right TT!
I think every amatuer club in Adelaide (except Gepps) just about had a crack at Chris, poor blokes phone hasn't stopped ringing the past couple of months...still thinks he can play at a high level and has friends at Walkies hence the decision.

Yes he is playing at Walkerville, so it's another club for the great man.
The issue as I understand it was not money, but a conflict of opinion between the coach & Chris. I'm no longer privy to these discussions and I'm relaying only what I've heard but I'm sad that this has happened with Chris because it shouldn't have IMHO. However, you put a person in a position and you either agree with him or you don't, personally I don't in this instance but it's not my call. I wish Chris the best and he's always welcome at Gepps Cross.
The bigger problem I see it is that when Chris & he last played together, they had their own conflicts, might make it interesting.

i am a great fan of C. Clonan ,as a player and person, and am dissappointed that he has left GX and headed to walkies [ he will give it more guts and drive than they know how to handle [[ always have been pussycats]] ] i wish him the best at his new club. that said , in the few games i saw last season Chris did struggle after 1/2 time , not in endevour but his ability to get any distance with his kicks. [ he did have trouble with his knees ] still think GX could have handled this better. good clubs do not let great players and clubmen go that easily.

In a perfect world, you're probably right but we don't live in a perfect world. The same could have be said about Peter Smith on 2 occasions when he left because the club wouldn't 'bend any further'. Nothing to do with the way the club handled it. Gepps Cross tried as hard as possible to retain him but sometimes individuals minds are made up and it matters not what is said or done. Might pay to read my earlier post which as far as I'm aware, created his intent to leave. Not the fault of GCFC IMO, you can lead a horse to the water trough, but you can't make him drink out of it. What's more, I'm not 100% sure that this is what "great clubmen' do when things don't always go their way.
once again GX doesn't do anything wrong that would make a player leave...... how many players have left there in recent years then?? pretty sure it started well before the current coach was there. knowing chris very well, and speaking to him recently, he is disappointed but he knows life goes on.
love it ace how your painting the perfect picture of the club - can only offer player so much, did all we could yada yada - obviously something bad has happened behind the scenes to make him to leave. yes his footy may have let him down a bit but blokes like him are needed around footy clubs! he was one guy i never thought would leave gx. i'm trying not to have a dig at the club, and no player is bigger than the club, but i think chris clonan deserves better than he got. just my gripe with this situation.
and he will be overseas for most of next year anyway. TT was right.
I refuse to answer that question on the grounds that I don't know the answer.
