DEW RETIRES

Talk on the national game

Dewie has been a fine servant for the Port Adelaide Football Club.

But ultimately, he was a chronic underachiever.

Never developed beyond being a handy goalsneak.

Hard to argue with that one, they're giving Sav Rocca a shot after all.
Regardless of the reasons, he'll be having a crack at the NFL before he's 30, so he's giving himself a better chance of making it IMHO.
Agree with the others that I don't think Dew really had the greatest of work ethics and unfortunately with his genetics, he needed a great work ethic to be a great AFL player and while he has still had a very good career, including that elusive premiership, it could have been so much more.

Todays Advertser article hints that its a strong chance that he will line up with Central next year as he hasn't lost his love of the two hours on Saturday, just all the other stuff that goes into being a full-time professional AFL player.

And Im sure the dedication to diet, training and lifestyle Dew made were more than that of the average AFL footballer.

Well done to you Stewy, all the best for the future and always remember, you played a huge role in Port Adelaides first ever AFL premiership. The sign of a true competitior is knowing when enough is enough, nothing worse than an inglorious exit from any arena.
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.
