KEY Adelaide forward Scott Welsh has ended a contract dispute with the AFL club by signing a one-year deal.

Welsh, 27, was offered a significantly reduced contract after playing just six games this season after being cursed by injury.

Welsh, the club's leading goalkicker in 2005, inked a one-year contract, Crows football manager John Reid said.

"We are pleased we have been able to extend Scott's contract into 2007, fit and performing, he is a very important player for our club," Reid said in a statement.

hopefully he spends more time on the ground in 2007 and plays well enough to get an increase in 2008 :D

magpie in the 80's

over the years when fit Scotty has always been in the crows best 22

im bit undecided on next year and I'm curious to see if the Crows still believe Welsh is a crucial part of their forward structure or have they kept him on the list as an insurance policy

The reason for my doubts, Welsh does not have the size play in a key forward role, his best footy is when Adel forward structure consist of two key talls and scotty picks up the 3rd best defender, not to mention Scotts strengths is playing from the full forward line utilising his quick hard leads

Now I focus on Roo and I sense the Crows will use Roo in a similar role as a leading forward from the full forward line and for Balance of the forward line structure I am not convinced both Roo and Welsh can play in the same forward structure together

I am more then happy to be proved wrong by both players kicking 40+ goals next year

In the best 22 on his sheer ability.
But he is a crock.
If Hentschell+ Biglands were available he should not be in the team.
Adelaide are a SLOWING team and should not carry unfit players.
Having Roo/Welshy/Perrie in the same forward line is a liability.

BlueBoy

I have no probs with his age, I'm about forward structure

Mal

Welsh is not slow, yes last season he was injury prone, in regards to Roo, one bad season with injuries does not make him a liability, I expect him to come back pretty fresh and fit next year, in saying that I sort of understand where your coming from

My question is quite simple, if both players are fully fit, can Roo and Welsh play in the same forward structure, I am not convinced, they both can not play a key position and they both play similar forward roles, which is a strong leading mid-size forward

I say play forwards that win the ball and make the oppositon wonder who to pick up - that might be a start.

Dont care who they are - really !!!

He is a dud, have to agree with SD- roo much better leading forward and welsh doesnt take enough contested marks to warrant his spot in the forward line. Bring back kenny, at least he can take a pack mark!

I agree, the first call the AFC needs to make is, who out of Kenny or Bock plays CHB, even though Bock had a good final series up forward I think Craigy will play Bock next year at CHB and Kenny forward, for couple of reasons.

1. Bock has superior leg speed to Kenny, which will prevent Kenny from being exposed for pace in the back 6, where it might cost goals.

2. Perrie is the only obvious choice at CHF, given Perrie likes to hit / lead up the ground, we need a player that can stay at home in the forward 50 and take a contested mark, Kenny has proved he can do this, but needs to improve his kicking over the summer. While Bock like Perrie like to play as a leading forward

3. Kenny, will work well with Roo on the FF line, Roo is a leading option, Kenny is kick long and quick to a one on one contest option

Kennys kicking isnt that bad, bar the fact he can kick over a jam tin, but tredrea has proved you dont have to a great leg to be valuable at CHF as long as you are getting the ball and then moving it on quickly!!! would much rather the ball be in kennys hands at CHF than Perries! out of those 3 bloke kenny is the smartest footballer, even tho he dont look it.
