Grand Final DVDs. Hoax.

Postby Dissident » Tue Oct 24, 2006 10:11 am

So I decided to drive past Collinswood on the way home Friday an d pick up a Grand Final DVD.

$55

Fair enough, I thought. My team won - I'll shell it out.

Oeeer, double disc set. Nice!

No.

I opened up the DVD in the car and checked it out. I almost crashed in to the car turning left on to Hampstead Road. (On a side note, I god damn hate people who drive STRAIGHT on North East Road from the "turn left in to Hampstead Road lane. smac I think you'd know about it!)

The DVDs are off a spindle of blank DVD-Rs (IJ Printable). Thw two disks are actually single layer, meaning half the game is on one disc and half is on the other. Why can't the ABC (SANFL whoever) make a dual-layer disc for the game??

The Introduction was nice (although painful).
But nothing else. It was thrown together over night.
No scores - no finals games. No ladders. Nothing "extra" from TV.
(Maybe i'm just following my own standards ;) )

Christ, I'm even turning to Dual Layer discs for MY DVD works of games/footage.

All in all, I can't beleive that $55 gets two burnt discs.

Spindle of 50 DVDs = $25 (or there abouts). About 50c per disc.
The ink cartridges for printing on them all would EASILY be under $100.

I'd hazard a guess and say each copy costs the SANFL $5 (at most) to create.

Sell 100 copies of the game, spend $500, make $5,500

Robbery.

(On another side note, Peter Goers walking past me in to the lift at the ABC commenting on my yellow Tshirt was interesting)

Sounds familiar mate, their production standards are non existent unless you want a bananas in pyjamas dvd. The SANFL aren't much better, I coached a kids side at AAMI a couple of seasons ago and the DVD purchased from SANFL of the game contained just that - the game. Single camera (which I can understand), no commentary (which I can also understand, but I didn't want the conversations of the camera operator instead!) and they slugged $35 for this. It came in a CD case, with no labels.

On your N.E. Rd/Hampstead Road issue, that does give me the tom tits, but you should see what they do out the front of my house. Turning right on to Taunton Road (becomes lower port rush road further down) from Hampstead Rd, drive on the wrong side of the road and then cross the road so they are travelling in the correct direction. We sometimes sit out the front just to watch and laugh.

The ABC can't afford to do dual layer discs for the GF.
The price is a bit steep.

Sent to ABC.net.au

Hi,

I wanted to comment on the SANFL Grand Final DVDs on sale by the ABC. I happily paid my $55 at the front desk and received my copy, but in all seriousness, I expected something more than just two inkjet printable DVD-Rs (single layer no less) with the game burnt on. If it was dual layer at least I wouldn't have to change disks half way through the match.

Procuring media, printing the label on the DVD, and the time to burn would be less than $5 I would think - which makes me beleive that the $55 price tag is just rediculous.

It's hard enough getting SANFL footage these days as it is without the "official" lines of purchasing being a burnt copy.

Whilst I'm extatic that my team won - I really do wish for a more professional production in keep on my shelf.

Regards,

David

Agree Diss. I'm not up with all this technology, but when I got my copy and saw two discs I was very happy - thought there's be the game plus other bits and pieces referred to on other threads, which would make it a special dvd. The money doesn't bother me, and the quality is good, I was a bit disappointed too.

Did they even record the victory lap? I didn't watch the telecast as I was at the game, but if they didn't show it then, the techs would have been packing up at the time. Poor form ABC.

I'm kicking myself for not taking a video camera back to Oval Avenue.

Some of the best footage I've seen is the 1984 footage back at the Parade after the "History Makers" win. About an hour (thanks CP!) of people and presenting of players half cut.

To Central fans - what was the DVD like last year? Did they have the victory lap and in the rooms afterwards?

I've got the 1993 GF against Norwood and it's got the lap and afterwards in the rooms with Neil Craig coming in and saying stuff.

No... it IS a problem!

The left lane of the three is ONLY for turning left on to Hampstead Road. The other two are for continuing along North East Road.
If you go straight from the left lane, it's WRONG.

(You call this going straight?)
