Well it is said to be, and everybody pays lip service to that if asked, but my experience living in Melbourne [and here] suggests that is not really true... ;)

No interstate teams.

Geelong, St Kilda, Western Bulldogs& Collingwood fans would be estatic, the others (Richmond, North Melbourne, Melbourne, Essendon, Hawthorn & Carlton) couldn't care less.

I agree that SA supporters manifest bigger chips on the shoulder about it, but I lived in Melbourne for 10 years and saw their media lay it on too - just not as directly and obviously.

Yes, the media do, but the supports look at it differently. For example, a lot of Hawthorn supporters would rather teams like Adelaide, Sydney and West Coast win a flag than Carlton, Essendon, etc. The inner-state rivalry is still very strong.

very true! i would waaaaaaaaaaaay rather see any other of the 13 clubs win a flag than Essendon or Carlton if the pies weren't in with a shot.

now that i think about it, my top 2 favourite teams would be Collingwood, then about 9384 years worth of daylight, then st kilda, but after that, the next 3 or 4 clubs i dislike the least would be interstate clubs.

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but an interesting stat put up on one of the talkfests Monday night.

Number of recent premierships won by the remaining teams in this year's finals race:

Team, premierships, last no. of years
St Kilda, 1, 42
Geelong, 1, 45
Bulldogs, 1, 54
Collingwood, 1, 50

Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

Yep, last flag for the Saints '66, Geelong '07, Bulldogs, '54, Collingwood '90.

just found a list of premiers from AFL/VFL and here is each teams last...

Fremantle, NA
W. Bulldogs '54
Melbourne '64
St Kilda '66
Richmond '80
Collingwood '90
Carlton '95
Adelaide '98
North '99
Essendon '00
Brisbane '03
Port '04
Sydney '05
West Coast '06
Geelong '07
Hawthorn '08

would like to see ten years of different teams winning premierships, makes for a good competition, as long as it's the Doggies turn this year!!!
